This past year, she has designed John Dexter's produc- tion of "'The Misanthrope" for the National• Theatre of Great Hritain and Gugol's "The Government Inspector" fur the Guthrie Theatre in Min- neapolis, along with•. several productions at the Crucible Theatre. . "Love's Labour's Lost", the third'opening of: the '74 season, will be directed by Michael Bawtree, an Associate Director of the St ratford : Festival, who staged the idely-praised "She Stoops to Co nquer" in 1972 and 197,3 and "Exiles" at the Third Stage this past August. A favourite with audiences through the centuries, the"jiiay combines exuberapt -comedy and some of Shakespeare's GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, THURSDAY, NOVEMH1Rt, most beautiful poetry in its light-ljarted satirizing of bookishness and pedantry. "King John" will be the final offering at the Festival Theatre, opening mid-July. The play will mark the directorial debut in Stratford of the celebrated Peter Dews, for- merly Artistic Director of the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. Mr. Dews has distinguished himself -with many memorable, long-running plays in the West End and on Broadway, as well- as with productions for Chichester and Edinburgh and for the leading repertory theatres of England. He also directed the New York production of "Crown Matrimonial", which opened this month at the Helen Hayes Theatre. Among Mr. •Dews' other New,. York credits are such successful works. as "Vivat'. Vivat Regina!" and "Hadriin VII," for which he won the Antoinette Perry - Award as best director,,.in 1969. He had earlier directed the much -acclaimed - English productions of both plays. The campaign garners support from all levees,t►f government, business, industry and organizations concerned with safety. Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, in his Safe Driving Week message, noted that the campaign -"Th a time for all Canadians to be more con- scious of the enormity of traffic accidents." "May Safe Driving Week prove to be a•t ime of in- creased care and concern which extends`to every week of the year," said the Prime Minister. "Traffic Accidents in Canada are now of epidemic propor- tions and continue to increase. There is no single,. miraculous cure but all concerned Canadians can help us- to prevent traffic accidents by wholeliea•rtedly supporting Safe Driving Week 197.3," said Bruce J. Legge, Q.C., President of the Canada Safety Council. The Governor-General, Honorary Patron of the Canada Safety Council, will " once again sign certificates for those cities with a population of 40,000 or more that go through Safe Driving Week without a fatality. Last year 50 out of 62 communities received certificates. - Durin the 1972 Safe Driving Week, thea; e 53 fatalities compared with an average weekly traffic death toll of 115. "If traffic fatalities can he reduced during this special week," added Mr. Legge, "the death toll can be kept to minimal proportions every week of the year." By being a defensive driver at all times, by always wearing your safety belts and by using the same caution and courtesy inttpired by Safe Driving Week every week of the year, you can effectively contribute to the fight against traffic ac- • c.idents and death. .SAT.
