der McVicar. Dr. Bruce has come from Thunder Bay, while Dr.'
McVicar is from Ottawa where he served as a medical doctor

GPH hires two doctors
The Goderich Psychiatric
Hospital have acquired two
new staff members in the pat
month.
Dr. John D'Arcy Bruce star-
ted his new position with the
Goderich - Psychiatric Hospital
on October 15, while . Dr.
Alexander McVicar began with
the,hospital November '1.
Dr. Bruce will he employed
as a staff physician, specializing
in the Alcoholic and Drug Ad-
diction Program. He was a
graduate, of the ,University of
Manitoba, Faculty of Medicine,
in 1941.
After finishing his course, he
left for Sioux Lookout where he
spent one year practicing
medicine.
From Sioux Lookout he went
to Toronto where he enrolled
into the Canadian Air Force,
with plans of being transferred
overseas.
"From here, I went to
Western Canada, with hopes of
going overseas. .I never left
Western Canada," he said.
Dr. Brucecingmedistatedine that e

Force, he travelled all, over
Western Canada, froth north to
south and from eeast to west.
After 3. 1/2 years with the
RCAF he returned to Winnipeg
where he completed post
graduate work.
During the l946,47 year, he
returned to Ontario where he
practiced medicine at the On-
tario 'Psychiatric Hospital in
North Bay.
In 1947, he went to Sarnia
where he remained for the next
25 years 'tis a general prac-
titioner and an anaesthetist.
In August of 1972, he ,left for
Thunder Bay where he was em-
ployed at the Lakehead
Psychiatric Hospital as a staff
physician.
Dr. Bruce and -Tis wife Jean
have three children, two
daughters and one son.
One daughter, Mrs. Sherrill
Ledeingham, resides in Win-
nipeg, while the other. Barbara,
..is practic•ing architectural
deigns in Toront
Dr. Bruce's son Robert
D'arcy is a medical student at
McMaster University in
Hamilton.
The Bruce family will reside
at 22 Cambria Road North, in
Goderich.
Previous to coming to
Goderich, Dr. Alexander
McVicar was employed with
the Canadian Armed Forces in
Ottawa, at the National
Defence Medical Centre.
He was with the RCAF since
his arrival in Canada in 1955.
Dr. McVicar is a native of
Glasgow, Scotland, and
received his education at the
Glasgow University, where he
graduated in 046.
He spent two years as a
medical doctor with the British
Army, stationed in Malaya and
Ceylon, in' the Far Eatat. -
During the next six years, he
returned to the 'United
Kingdom where he was a
general practitioner outside of
Birmingham, England.
Dr. 1'C1c,Vicar received ► his

treal, at McGill Univer91 and
at Halifax at Dalhousie.
For the meantime, Dr.
Mt\'icar's wife, .Joan, has
remained in Ottawa, disposing.

The McVicars have two
children, a daughter, teaching
in Jamaica, and a son, atten-
ding the Sir George Williams
University in Montreal.
The son is involved- in a
Biology course and is also very
active with the international
Water Polo Organization.
The McVicari' will reside at
2.52 Mill Road, in Goderich.

The Goderich detachment of
the.,Ontario Provincial Police is
investigating the theft of a wide
range of interesting pieces of
property.
Among those items stolen
were one black mail box, one
tape recorder, one color
television set, a pink marble
bust of a young woman, an
hour glass clock, one lamp
shade; a double barrel 12 gauge
shotgun, three ships lanterns,
an airplane propeller clock, one
maroon vaae and . one brass
shins wheel.
