The school collected $158.95 this year for the needy cause. The five classes that collected for the under -privileged this year were those of Minimum wage Labour Minister Fern Gum - don announced in the Legislature today that a minimum wage,of 32 an hour for employees in general in- , dustry will t*come effective throughout Ontario on January 1, 1974. Present rate of $1.80 became effective February I, 1973. The minimum.rate will apply to all employees except student under the age of IS. The student rate will he $165 per hour. The minimum rate for struction employees will in- crease from $2.05 to $2.25. Guards on construction sites will receive the same rate. r Mr. Guindon said the pur, pose of the minimum wage was to give workers whose bargaining power is limited a measure of protection against exploitation.
