first aid course
October is the month when
the Goderich Branch Commit-
tee of St. John Ambulance ap-
peals for financial assistance to
enable it to carry on its work.
Not only are classes in First -
Aid offered locally by .the
group, but members of the
Brigade are un hand at all
sporting events to render aid to
any who are accidentally in-
jured.
Those services to the cum -
minity in the Goderich District
are enttrel% tree, while the
members give their time %olun-
tarily. There are few calls upon
its mobile unit or for the help
of its members that are refused.
A few dans ago the following
letter was recet\ed saying -
"1 have appreciated the work
of the tit John Ambulance ever
since my husband passed away.
We were in Southampton when
he was taken to their hospital
and they arranged for Goderich
to send our Ambulance for him,
so I have alwa%s appreciated
the wonderful help it gave
,.when we needed it Thank you

Cancer Society elects

Last week, Dennis Little won
two games but also lost one,
enabling Jim Weary to move
into first place with an im-
pressive nine and one record.
Jim Kingsley's was broken as
he won two and lost one to
hold onto third place.
With Dave Weary winning
and losing two games Rick
Kingsley moved back into the
first Level.
Laird Eisler has shown great
improvement this year, having
already won five games com-
pared to one last year.
Glen Wightman had a perfect
night winning all four games to
move up into Level 2. John
Kane also moved up into Level
Two winking two of three.
Harold Kloeze also played very
well winning all four games
and advancing into Level 2.
We welcome Ian Ross back
to the Club. Ian started this
season in great style with. two
wins and a stalemate. We also
wish to welcome a new mem-
ber,, Melonie Johnston. Melonie
Luis
taken the lead in Level
Four.
Reinhardt Voelmle, one of
last year's toughest competitors
drove up from Stratford to win
one of two games.

resigns MR post;
Simons returns
Fifteen people were in atten-
dance for the October meeting
of the Goderich and District
Association' for the Mentally
Retarded. .The meeting was
.held October 22 at Queen
Elizabeth School.
George Simons chaired the
meeting in the absence of
President Gary Davidson. -
Elsa Haydon in her report on
pre-schoolers stated that the in-
tegration with other nursery
children is going very well.
"The children seers to in-
stinctively protect the mentally
retarded within their own
group," said Mrs. Haydon.
Mrs. Bonnie Graham in
charge of Queen Elizabeth
School reported there are
currently 27 enrolled at the
school. Ice skating for the
children has begun once again.
Mts. Evelyn Carroll gave her
report on the Workshop at the
Kinsmen Playground. There
was a lengthy discussion on the
fees paid by the trainees to the
workshop and also on the
trainees' wages. These wages
were referred to the Adult. Ser-
vices for further discussion and
action.
Mrs. Carroll also
acknowledged the -sum of
$18.00 recently from the
"Helping Hands". •

was brought to the attention of
the meeting Treasurer Morris
Van der Meer. st-aced that the
cost of cards this year is $98.00.
The workshop supervised by
Evelyn Carroll will package the
cards and they will be sold by
association members. Cards
will also be available at French
Dry Cleaners on West Street.

over for Gary Davidson as
chairman until the next annual
meeting., Mr. Davidson stated
that he must give up the.
position because of other com-
mitments.
