Seven voting 'members were
among fourteen delegates from
Huron who attended the On-
tario Liberal Convention last
weekend at the Royal York
Hotel in Toronto in which
Robert Nixon earned another
-chance to try to unseat the Con-
servative government in
Toronto.
Nixon in' the third ballot
edged out Norman Cafik, the
federal Liberal from Pickering
by a final vote count of 992-
675.
Donald Deacon another can -
didate from Toronto's York
Centre, spent $60,000 on his
campaign which ended in the
second ballot. Mr. Deacon
threw his support to Mr. Nixon
to ensure his leadership at least
through the next election which
will probably be in 1975.
For a time it looked as
though the hara- -iving Cafik
campaign would topt,!- Mr.
Nixon from his post,' t)4.`. -
Deacon supporters were largely
unwilling to see the party tur-
ned over to a Liberal untried at
the provincial level.
