There were beautiful little
white rabbits ,n,d a pair of
blacks in nice"2t'ean cages. A
tiny mouse -like animal took my
eye - had nice long fur - even
fur on .his (other) tail. Ope
fellow had wire runways in and
out of two or three other cages.
Looked interesting! Another
chappie - a mod hamster was
sure cute, bristling black, red -
brown and front stripe of black,
again, with twinkling little eyes
peeking out at you.
A lot of exotic fish, lots of
supplies and a nice roomy
store. I didn't notice if she had
birds - probably has, but it was
so busy I decided to have a bet-
ter look - later.
So - now you have the Craft
Corner at the top of the street
and all the other nice shops -
you just HAVE to take a better
look at this street, go in and
meet the owners, see what fine
merchandise they all carry and
best of all you are, always
greeted with a smile and a
cheery 'How de -doodle' - or
something like that, which
makes you want to call again -

Also, I'll bet you haven't
seen the new premises 'Jun'

Sr. citizens make jail proposal
, When the closing date of Oc-
tober 19, for the filing of
proposals regarding the future
use of the former Huron
County Jail, arrived two
reports were on the desk of
Town Clerk -Administrator
Harold Walls. One is from the
Architectural Conservancy of
Ontario (Huron County
Branch), which is discussed in
an account of the Conser-
vancy's last meeting elsewhere
in this week's publication, and
one from a group" of local
Senior Citizens.
The two proposals carry ,the
same theme, calling for the oc-
tagonal jail to be converted to a
variety of uses and suggest this
be accomplished with the use •
of government funding
provided through grant
programs.'
The Senior Citizens recom-
mend strongly the use of
federal New Horizons program
grants which will provide fun-
ding for the organization of
projects set up by those over 65
years of age.
According to the Senior
Citizens', proposal, the jail could
be used for their activities,
recreation programs and
meetings.
"It is proposed to the Council
of the Town of Goderich that
the premises known - as the
Huron County Jail be used as a
New Horizons project," the
proposal noted.
"The • objectives of this
proposal," the Senior ,.Citizens
submission said, "Would be
that a New Horizons Museum
be set up depicting the
evolution of the correctional
system .of -North America."
"To operate a concession on
the premises for profit; to lease
some of the area for theatre
and band concerts; to lease the
area to small groups for
business meetings; to use The
premises for educational.
meetings of senior citizens; to
use the premises for organized
recreational activities for
Senior citizens," the proposal
said.
"To use the premises for all
senior citizen organized ac-
tivities during 12 months of the
year; to_ use the premises to
cater to meetings; to benefit the
commercial and professional
People as well as all citizens of
the County of HuiFtr „i ttttac-
ting tourists from all over
North America and to operate
the museum at a profit. after
the set, up- time period," the
proposal continued.
"It is oU-r rintention," the
brief summarized, "that the
funding to establish this
proposal as a profitable venture
- will be requested from the New
Horizons Program."
The Senior Citizens proposal
ran one page in length while
the more detailed Architectural
Conservancy brief covered 15
pages, including an insert on
grants recently handed out to
museum and historical site
projects. •

During the past week, the
Goderich Police Department
handled ,,-134 occurrences, • of
which 29 involved criminal
matters. Five arrests were
made and charges laid included
six under the Criminal Code,
19 of the Highway Traffic Act
and 14 involving the Liquor.
Vontrol Act. There were un-
necessary noise charges issued
following incidents on the
'quare.
The burning.of leaves is now
becoming more common within
certain areas of town, with
Elgin Street being very
noticeable, says the Police,
Chief Pat King.
This often creates a traffic
hazard when smoke clouds '
drift across the roadway, " says
the Chief. It also causes an-
noyance to other citizens,
*.specially those with health
proh1erns."
Under Ontario's anti-
pollution laws, infractions are
normally handled by the in-_
,pecturs employed by • the
province, but police can act on
. (mplaints received. •
"Persons in the habit of bur-
ning leaves are reminded of
these facts," says the Chief.
"There is just as much effort
required to rake them and
place them in plastic bags,
rather than burn them."
"This way, traffic ,conditions
in' town are not made more
hazardous • by the lessening of
_visibility," adds the Cheif.
"The neighbours are happier
and persons do not break ache
law."
"Let's try to keep our air•
fresh, and not smelling like one
great big bonfire," concluded
the Chief.

Offensively, the Viking game
plan was to run up the middle.
The outstanding blocking of the,.,
offensive line, especially by Jim'
Durst and Brian Whitely, made
the plan look good.
Tom O'Brien scored three
touchdowns for the Vikings.
Two of them carne in the
,,;second quarter on three and,
nine yard runs. His longest
came on a 57 yard quarterback
sneak in the third quarter.
Joe O.'Keefe .scored a first
quarter touchdown on a three
yard dive play. Dave Mclvor
Brian Whitely -
scored on a similar play in the
'thirdquarter for the Vikings.
The Vikings other touchdown
came on a 25 yard pass play
from Larry Donnelly to Casey
Wildgen in the second quarter.
Wildgen also kicked one cons
vert and a single point,
The other Viking points came
on a two point conversion pass
from . Tom O'Brien to Joe
O'Keefe.
Listowel's only point came
on a single kicked in the third
quarter. This was the' second
game in a row in which the
Viking defence yielded a single
point.
Coach Ray Donnelly ex-
pressed pleasure . over the
penalty yardage total against
the Vikings. The Vikes gave up
only 55 yards via the penalty
route compared to 215 last
week against Wingham.
Today's_ action sees the
Vikings in Stratford playing
against Northwestern.
