,tor,n. One tree, they said, was
blown across the Fourth Con -
c ession of Goderich .Township
wt„{ hod to be cleared by a
leo l l.ti,yer to open the road for
traffic.
.An officer of the detachment
also investigated a report of a
downed tree across Highway 21
about one 'mile south of
Goderich. The officer managed
ro rnove the obstruction into
the ditch, however, and the
roadway opened again for traf-
Fi• .
Officers also investigated
another windfall across the
roadway near Saltford and con-
tacted the Colborne Township
works department who
removed the debris.
Police also reported to the
scene of blown transformers at
Bavfield but reported no wires
down and no injuries.
The high wjnds slammed
into Bayfield tearing a tree
jiirnh loose and smashing. it
through the side of the Village
Market store.
Owner of the busiriess, Keith
Bunn, said the limb shifted and
cracked the wall and estimated
that • damages could run into
thousands of dollars.
The wind also blew a tree
limb onto the store roof and
anther landed on ,top of a
parked car.
Downed lines also resulted in
-i two hour power failure to -the
Adage.
Bell telephone reported two
or three lines down throughout
Goderich and the surrounding
area. A spokesman for the
telephone company said no
large cables were broken and
interruption of service was con-
kpik fined to small isolated areas.
Goderich volunteer firemen
were called to the Goderich
Nursing Homo -on Nelson Street
when the power 'failure, at
about 10:00 p.m., tripped alarm
systems connected to the fire
hall.
Firemen answered the call
with their complete stable • of
equipment' but after in-
vestigating the incident retur-
ned to the station. •
There were dance numbers
by the Maloney sisters, Diane,
Joan, Elaine and Gloria; Vicky
Bennewies, Vanda and Sherry
Storey. Musical numbers by
Marlene and Valeria ille.
Mr. Marshall Stewart, a native
of Seaforth, thanked the enter-
tainers on behalf' of the
residents.
