IICTORIA YIEPOINT
By Richy Anderson
When Saturday comes I get
up re,,a1 early and I watch Abott
yand Costello, Space ghost,
Shazam, Mighty Mouse, little
Rovert, Spider ratan, Rocket
Robinhood, and the Roman
Holidays.
By Garry Mailough
Then when Saturday night
comes I watch Bugs Bunts and
the Road Runner. Then when 1
decide to go' to bed I read my
Casper book.,
George and I wanted to make
a raft. So we got some wood
and plastic. We' made a raft
and put on a motor, we put it in
the river, then got on. I got a
coehoe and Geoge got a trout.
We went home and ate'them.
By Diane ,Ross
One day as I got out of bed I
knew that it was going to be a
boring day. But suddenly an
idea came into • my mind. 1
knew we had a farm so I got
dressed and asked my dad and
mom if we could go horse back
riding.
They said ok. We got ready
and went out to our farm. I had
a horse all to my self. I -called
him Snow fire because he was
all white:
My uncle took care of the
horses. 1 asked mom if I could
ride him through the corn field
because the corn field was rot-
ted .away. My uncle Bill asked
us if we wanted to stay for sup-
. per and we said ok.
At last we were home. I had
a lot of fun.

Grand Bend firm test Arctic vehicles
A series of tests have been
conducted to check the
capability of Air Cushion
Vehicles to operate in arctic
,regions .year -around without
harming the environment.
Trials with a 45 -ton
Voyageur. ACV, built by Bell
Aerospace Canada Division of
Textron Canada Ltd., Grand
Bend, included operating the
craft repeatedly over soft, sum-
mertime tundra.
In contrast to the Voyageur
which exerts a surface pressure
of only 11 of a pound per
square inch "despite its gross 45 -
ton weight,wheeled and tracked
vehicles bog down in soft tun-
dra and grind it up. This leaves
permanent scars that widen
with each year's thaws and
freeze -ups.
As a result, remote area con-
struction projects in the Arctic
and sub -Arctic including oil
field work - can be, performed
only in the four coldest months
IT'S IMPOSSIBLE

once. Bring yours In now while we have
time to look It over! If you -don't haveyour
machine serviced now you may not be
ready to run. Beat the winter service
rush. Be ready to run while others are
being serviced.

of the year, when the tundra is
frozen solid.
But while these months
provide a hard surface for tran-
sportation purposes, they also
are the coldest months of the
year for working conditions in
the north.
Because of this, the
Canadian Arctic Gas Pipeline
System is expected to take four
years to complete. If the same
job could be done on a year -
around basis, the project could
possibly be done in two years.
The Voyageur tests were
sponsored by the Canadian
Ministry of Transport's' Tran-
sportation Development
Agency. The l0 -day trials in
late August were supervised by
the federal government Depart-
ment of the Environment.
Travelling, to the west
location, the Voyageur made a
1,180 -mile trip down the
Mackenzie River from Hay
River to Inuvik in 23 hours
operating time.
After that, operations were
conducted daily on Richards
Island in the Mackenzie Delta
with the craft accumulating an
average of nearly 10 hours per
day. Supervised by environ-
mental representatives from F.
F. Slaney and Co. Ltd. of Van-
couver B. C., the Voyageur:
Was operated repeatedly at
15, 30 and 40 miles per hour
over selected tracks of tundra
as technicians from Slaney took
measurements of the impact
the vehicle made on the sur
face. The craft • was driven 20
times at each speed over
.separate tracks;
Operations over two -foot -
deep polygons (mounds that
are split at the top) were con-
ducted in fields where polygons
were located as close as 10 feet
apart;
In a wildlife test the craft
was operated in the vicinity of
ducks, Canada geese and wild
swans, to "check on how close
the ACV could operate without
distrubing them. -
Underwater sounding tests
were made to compare the ACV
underwater noise level with
that of ships and motor boats.
The researchers are com-
piling a report on the tests,
with the results to be announ-
ced later this vear.
