tutting the team down to
Friday but noted, "Cut -
looks to be a tough job,
are a lot of quality
trying out for the
team is weaker this year", he
added, "and it looks as though
we may even be stronger in
defence. The forwards are cer-
tainly as 'good as last year or
possibly better".
"This year we've got four
goal tenders at try -outs", he ex-
plained, "where last year we
had only the two".
The Sailors for the moment
have just been shaping up with
only a few scrimmages, the
coach )explained. "I'm just
trying to get some of that sum-
mer fat worn off first of all".
It will likely be a week or
more yet before the Inter-•
Mediate League schedule is
released but the team expect
play to start about November
15.
It is not known as yet who
wilt put teams on the ice for the
new season although Port
Elgin, Kincardine and Seaforth
have all announced they intend
to field teams. Mr. Cruickshank
said an attempt was being
made to form a seven team
league this year.
"People are turning out to
watch the, practices," the coach
explained, "and there seems to
be a. ot of enthusiasm among
the fans."
Financially the Sailors en-
joyed an excellent year last
season` and organizers hope for
improvements even on that
during the coming season.
GDCI Junior Girls proved
last week -that theirs is the
team to watch this season. Win-
ning over Seaforth's Junior
Girls on Tuesday, they ended
the game with a score of 32-15.
Outstanding players included
newcomers Mary Bu-rns,
Thursday's game provided
exciting competition as GDCI
reluctantly lost to Stratford
Central's Junior Girls with a
close score of 33-30. Chris
Wildgen and Marg Kovacs
each sunk 7 points and were
amply supported by the work of
scoring 11 points, and Marg
Kovacs with 8 while former Mary Burns scoring 5, Jan
player Chris Wildgen supplied Ginn With 4 and Judy Taylor

The Goderich' Minor Soccer
Club played host to clubs from
Clinton, Exeter, Grand Bend,
St. Mary s and Seaforth, when
the Pam Budny Memorial
Trophy for Pee Wees was
played for last Saturday.
The trophy 'was donated by
the G.M.S.A. in memory of the
late Pamela Budny in
recognition of the work Kaz
Budny has done to get minor
soccer off the ground In Huron
County.
The first round saw Goderich
Pee Wees take a narrow 1-0
decision over St. Mary's. Clin-
ton went down to Grand -Bend
3-2 on penalty shots after being
0-0 at full time. Seaforth had to
fight hard to beat Exeter 1-0
and the Goderich Mosquitos
went into the next round on a
default by Huron" Park who
failed tOrshow.
In the semi-finals Goderich
PeeWees beat the plucky
Goderich Mosquitos 3-0. In the
other semi-final game Grand
Bend beat Seaforth 3-2 in a
hard fought match.
In the finals it was Goderich
over Grand Bend 3-1. The local
team took command right 'from
the start and never looked like
losing evert after missing two
penalty shots.
In the consolation semi-
finals it' was St. Marys over
Exeter 3-0 and Clinton over
Goderich Mosquitos 1-0. A
special mention .should be
made of the Goderich
Mosquitos and the way they
fought every inch of every game
against .the older Pee Wee
teams.
The consolation final was
another hard fought game with
St. Marys beating Clinton 4-3.
Dr. John Underwood,
president of H.M.S.A. made the
presentation of the consolation
trophy to the St. Mary s cap-
tain.
Kaz Budny presented the
Pam Budny memorial trophy to
the captain of the Goderich 'Pee
Wees, Gordon Budny.
This was Goderich's first at-
tempt at organizing a soccer
tournament, and it turned out
to be a; most successful attempt.
When it comes to hot water,
using it wisely—not wastefully—
makes good sense.
