The GDCI senior Vikings
remained unbeaten and not
scored against last Thursday in
rolling to _ their third Huron -
Perth Conference football vic-
tory at Clinton.
The Vikings crushed Central
Huron Redmen 19-Q to gain a
split in the junior -senior
doubleheader. Central Huron
won the junior game 20-14 with
the winning touchdown coming
on the last play of the game.
Tom O'Brien scored the
opening touchdown for the
senior Vikings on a 70 yard
punt return in the first quarter.
Casey Wildgen kicked the con-
vert.
Mike Wildgen added six
points to the Viking scoring in
the second quarter, taking a
five yard pass from quarterback
Tom O'Brien for the touch-
down.
ouch-
down.
The only scoring of the
second half came on p 40 yard
fumble 'recovery by Robbie
MacDonald in the fourth quar-
ter. The play was set up by a
jarringtackle by Jim Ginn that
resulted in the fumble.
The game was a tough one,
featuring strong defensive play
by both teams.
The Viking front four of
Wally Pierson, Robbie
MacDonald, Jim Durst and
Dave 'Patterson were solid and
were given good support by Jim
Ginn and Al Shelton on the
corners and Casey Wildgen at
defensive half.
The next action for the
Vikings is today with the
.Wingham Mustangs playing
here in a junior -senior
doubleheader beginning at 1.30.
The junior Vikings record
now stands at two wins and
one defeat following their loss
to Central Huron.
Viking touchdowns came on
a ten yard pass from Iain Lam-
bert to John Hanly in the first
quarter and a second quarter
two yard quarterback keeper
play be Lambert.
The first` touchdown was set
up by Jed DeJong's pass inter-
ception, while a fumble
recovery by Brian Hawe paved
the way to the second major.
lain Lambert kicked both
converts.
Tim Jewson scored a pair of
touchdowns for Central Huron.
It was Francis MacGregor's
recovery of a dropped punt in
the Viking end zone that gave
the junior Redmen their
margin of victory.
Coach Phil Bugler felt his
junior Vikings were probably
hurt by, their easy wip over St.
Marys in their last game, but
probably more important was a
shoulder injury suffered by the
GDCI girls basketball
Vikings strong running back
'Gerry O'Brien early in the first
half.
Coach Bugler ,feels his team
will have to be at their beat
today to defeat Wingham.
The GDCI senior girls
basketball team -suffered two
defeats Last week.
Tuesday, they lost to
Seaforth 34-31 in overtime and
on Thursday they dropped a
53-39 verdict to Stratford Cen-
tral.
The Seaforth game was tied
28-28 at the end of regulation
time, but the Seaforth girls out-
scored the GDCI team 6-3 in
the overtime period to take the
victory. -
Top scorer in the game was
Ann Hopper of Seaforth with 12
points. Teresa Flanagan threw
_in 10 points for the winners.
Other Seaforth scorers were
Joanne Kunz, Debbie McClure,
Karen Regier and Cathy
Stewart.
Tanya Palmer led the
Goderich girls with eight
points, while Carole
Cruickshank hooked seven,
Bet, .v Crawford six and Sally
Stri: ger four. Lori Beattie,
Brenda Brissette and Laura
Ross each had two points.
The GDCI girls stuck with
the Stratford squad for the first
half of that game, trailing only

the second half to win by 14
points.
Judy Dark, with 14 points led
the Stratford scoring.
