CHURCH NEWS.
The Rev. Kenneth Rooney,
who has been with the Ripley
and Ashfield Presbyterian
Church for the peat five years
has accepted a call to
Cookstown and wilt leave for
there on October 10.
Rev. and Mrs. Rooney have
always been deeply concerned
over everyone in these
congregations. They have been
good friends in sorrow and on
happy occasions alike, and they
will be greatly.missed.
Rev. Rooney, Mrs. Rooney
and Lois were asked to a
congregational gathering in
their honor on Sunday after-
noon.
A short program was presen-
ted by the school children, the
Swan Family, selections by
Finlay MacDonald on 'the
violin, and two duets by Lois
and Rev. Rooney accompanied
by Lois on the guitar were
much enjoyed.
Finlay MacDonald who was
chairman called the% Rooney
family to the front, where an
address was read by Mrs. Lois
Farrish. A cheque was presen-
ted to Mr. Rooney.
Mrs. Jane West on behalf of
'ane W.M.S. presented Mrs.
Rooney with a travelling case.
Lois was- presented with a cup
and saucer with her birth
month printed .on-it..iin gold let-
ters.
The Rooney family each
thanked the congregation in
turn 'and invited them to come
and see them in their new
home.
A bountiful lunch was served
by, the ladies of the church.
Rev. and Mrs. Rooney, have
two other sons Robert and
Richard, who.are both studying
in University at the present
time.

the G.D.C.I. to see the Grade 12
and 13 diplomas given out on
Friday evening and enjoyed
selections by the High School
orchestra.

Mr. Gordon Drennan
celebrated his 82nd birthday
last week. Congratulations!
The neighbours along Highway
21 north of Kintail got together
to celebrate it with Gordon.
4-H MEETINGS
At the third , meeting of
Auburn I, Crafty Cooks, San-
dra- Popp was selected as
floating secretary. Roll call was
answered by naming a recipe or
food characteristic of England,
Scotland, Ireland pr Wales.
A summary of British
tradition was read by the mem-
bers. The demonstration was
given by Mrs. Nick Hill' who
made English Trifle and spoke
about how it was made. It was
tasted by all the members who
found it delicious.
Joanne Hickey presented
Mrs. Hill with a gift of ap-
preciation.
The officers for Auburn II
are President Arva Ball; vice-
president Judy Van Dongen;
secretary, floating; press repor-
ter, Faye Seers; treasurer,
Sherry Plaetzer.
Auburn No. 2 National
Nourishers 4-H club held their
fourth meeting at the home of
the leader Miss Lynn Turner
on September 27th.-,
The roll call was answered
by naming a food commonly
purchased today which was for-
merly made at home.
Next meeting will be held on
October 9 at the home of Cathy
McClinchey.

On Friday Sept. 28, the
Western Fair Raceway at Lon-
don opened their fall meet.
Several local horses made a
good showing. In the first race,
Imp Mathers owned by
Charles, Eugene and John
Mathers was second with John
on the bike. In the same race,
Wayne Express owned and,
driven by George Caldwell was
fifth.
The thin;. race winner was
Jimmy the Butler owned by
Robert and H. 0. Jerry with
Robert driving. The mile was in
2.08.4 and the payoff was $7.40.
In the sixth race Shadow
Bars owned by. Fred Fowler
and driven by Frank
MacDonald was third:
In the ninth race Miss Belle
Bars, owned by Fred Fowler
and driven by Frank
MacDonald was second.
Saturday night at the Lon-
don track, Scotch A Plenty was
fourth in the second race with
Hobert -Faulds on the bike. In
the fifth race Victor H. Volo
owned by Fred Fowler and
driven by Frank MacDonald
was fourth.
In the eighth race, El Sam 0
owned by Dick Burgess and Joe
and Jim Dick did not finish
with Gord Pullman on the bike.
At the Hanover Raceway
Saturday night, Pink Panther

the winner in 2.11.2 for a payoff

Society was - held Thursday,
September 20 in the church
basement. Mrs. Jack MacKen-
zie opened the meeting.
Mrs. Jim West read the scrip-
ture.
Eleven 'members answered
the roll call with an interesting
item on India.
Mrs. Jim West gave an infor-
mative story on mission study
in India. A question and an-
swer period followed by
dividing the ladies in two
groups when the answers were
discussed.

Sadie Johnston presented Mrs.
K. Rooney who -is soon leaving,
with a Life Membership given
by Mrs. Henry MacKenzie who
was unable ta attend.
