The GDCI senior Vikings, in
an awesome display of power,
crush St. Marys 90-0 in the
openi home game of the
Huron -Perth Conference
schedule here last Thursday.
The Vikings began their
record setting scoring perfor-
mance early when Dave Patter-
son recovered a fumble in the
St. Marys end zone on the
opening kickoff for the first
Viking touchdown. Casey
Wildgen added the extra point,
the first of eight he kicked in
the game.
Before the first quarter was
over, the biking scored three
more touchdowns.
Full-back Joe Q'Keefe was
the ball carrier on all three oc-
casions, going 45 yards off
tackle for the first, 37 yards on
an end sweep for the second,
and eight ywrds off tackle for
the third.
Quarterback Tom O'Brien
threw to Doug Fisher for a two-
point conversion of O'Keefe's
third touchdown.
Three more second quarter
majors made the half time
score 50.0.
Doug Fisher went 40 yeards
off tackle for one of them, while
quarterback Tom O'Brien ran
25 yards on an end sweep and
Joe O'Keefe went 15 yards off
tackle for the others.
In the third quarter, it was
Joe O'Keefe with his fifth
touchdown of the afternoon on
a 10 yards off tackle run scoring
before Larry .Donnelly hit
Brian Thompson on a 25 yard
pass and run play for another
major.
Donnelly passed 10 yards to
Casey Wildgen early in the
fourth quarter for another six
pointer, topped off by ar,two
point conversion pass from
Tom O'Brien to Doug Fisher.
Quarterback Donnelly, who
starred in the second half, then
went 34 yards on an ' end
sweep on an option play for the
Vikings eleventh touchdown -
He followed that with a 50
yard scamper for his second
touchdown on the only two
times in the game that he
carried the ball.
The Vikings picked up six
other points on three safety
touches given up by St. Marys.
The statistics showed the
Vikings gaining a total of 586
yards; 186 passing and 400
along the ground.
St. Marys, on the other band,
managed only 27 yards
rushing and siz passing for a
total of 33 yards.
The Viking defence forced St,
Marys to give up the ball seven
times on turnovers including
two interceptions, four fumbles
and one blocked' punt.
Wally Peirson, playing at his
new middle linebacker position,
was personally responsible for
causing three of those fumbles
and was in on the lion's sharp
of Viking tackles.
Robbie - MacDonald played
what coach Ray Donnelly
called one of the strongest
defensive games he has ever
seen a high-school football,
player .play, making twelve
unassisted tackles, many of
them behind the St. Marys line
of scrimmage. He recovered all
four of the St. Marys fumbles
and blocked the punt.
Today the Vikings are
playing in Clinton against Cen-
tral Huron in what may be one
-of their tougher games, this
season. The next Viking home
game is next Thursday with the
Wingham Mustangs ,the
visitors.
