Dominion Roads and
Machinery Company Limited,
manufacturers Of "Champion"
graders has adopted a new
security system in their
Goderich plants.
L.B. Graham, Personnel
Manager for DRMCO stated
that the reason for the new
system is to control the
movement of unauthorized
people On plant property.
"This company has grown so
quickly that unauthorized
people were walking around '
the plant virtually unnoticed,"
he added.
The company which em-
ployed 284 people in September
1968, now have 707 workers.
The new security system con-
sists of 10 guards under the
supervision of Roy Oesch. They
are responsible' for the main
plant, number two plant and
the gear plant.
All traffic in and out ofthe
main plant is now regulated sp
as to control possible thefts, as
well as the on grounds
movement of vehicles which
may interfere with production
or shipping.
Currently, the employees
must pass through the guar-
dhouse when arriving of
leaving. Graham is quick to
Point out that this new policy is
not a reflection on the honesty
of the employees hutIS nist part
of the all-round security
measures.
"In fact," he stated, "the -em-
ployees themselves have quite
often been the victims of thefts
having lost tools or car 'tape
players from their autos while
they were working".
The security guards respon-
sibilities include the protection
of employees, detection of
thefts, control of on grounds
traffic and parking, fire patrol
and general security of all com-
pany property.
In the past, there was mainly
weekend policing by plant em-
ployees prAsrily for fire
protection and possible
trespassing by unauthorized
personnel.
Security Chief Roy Oesch is
highly qualified in this type of
work having served as a police
officer for 30 years in depart-
ments in St. Catharines, Paris
and Clinton -
Some security measures to be
instituted in the future are the
registration of all employees on
the job site by their time clock
number, a drop gate to control
the movement of traffic, and
spot lunch pail checks among
employees.
Because of the adoption of
this new system, DRMCO will
now be patrolled 24 hours a
day and seven days a week.
"Goderich Keatured on

Approximately' 100
youngsters registered for the
1973-74 minor hockey season
when the Goderich Minor
Hockey Association held their
first day of registration last
Saturday.
G.M.H.A. president Dr. Jim
Peters said he felt Saturday's
trnout was a good one and
gave the organization a good
start toward registering ap-
proximately 350 boys who are
expected to participate in
minor hocky programs during
the upcoming season.
Registration will be held
again this Saturday beginning
at 9 a.m. at the local arena.
Registration closes at noon.
Fees are up slightly over last
season wi(h minor. hocky
costing a youngster $15
singularly, $20 for two in one
family and $25..if three or more
register from one family.
Last year the rates were $12,
$16, and $20 but Dr. Peters -
points out that since the minor
hockey association is now
paying the insurance ,the in-
creases as a result are not as
high as they might seem.
No date has been set to begin
the new season, that time
hinging on when ice is put in
the local arena.
"We will be holding a -
coaches' clinic and clinic for
the power skating teachers on
October 13," the G.M.H.A.
president explained, "and that -
will offiCially kick off "the
season. It is possible hoxever
that we could have the Iffilt<on
ice before that -if it is in."
A referees clinic and meeting
has been called for October 20
as well.
Dr. .Peters said the
association is still in need of
help, particularly-ttrthe Ban-
tam division, where coaches
and conveners are ilieeded. The
association is also short on
referees.
