The Administrative Commit-
tee of Goderich Town Council
has been charged with the
responsibility of looking into a
request for a contribution of
$100 to the Canadian Ski
Association. 'The correspon-
dence which came to council
noted that the national ski
team must raise one-quarter of
a million dollars to finance a
bid for the world skiing cham-
pionship. R
Councillor Elsa, Haydon,
member of the Administrative
Committee chaired by Court.
cillor Dave Gower, said
Canadian athletes are treated
like orphans.
"It is time we did something
in this respect," stated Coun-
cillor Haydon who expressed
her view that the Town should
donate $100 to the cause. Her
opinions were 'supported by
Deputy -reeve Stan Profit.
Councillor Eileen Palmer,
another member of the Ad- `
ministrative Committee, remin-
ded council that special rates
for two local figure skaters who
were preparing for national
competition were denied." Mrs.
Palmer could see no reason to
financeahe national ski team, if
local athletes were not assisted
as. well.
It was pointed out that these
skaters did receive municipal
assistance.
Councillor Gower advised
there was no budget from
which to take a donation of
$100 and asked that the matter
be referred to the Ad-
ministration Committee for
study and recommendation
back to council.

Following the reading of a
'letter "from ` Alexander and
Chapman Realty Ltd. which
asked that the proposed
$200,000 apartment building
proposed by Suncoast. Estates
be approved, council later in
the meeting accepted a Plan-
ning Board recommendation
that the apartment building to
be permitted as planned.
It was learned construction
will begin shortly with plans
. for spring occupancy.
Also approved in the Plan-
ning Board recommendations
was rezoning on Bayfield Road
- from D to C3 to - permit a
proposed " motel -restaurant
complex by Sager Construction.
(It was duly noted in the
minutes of the meeting that
Reeve Deb Shewfelt, having an
interest in,the proposal, did not
enter into discuss -tons oh the
matter or vote on it.)
The zone change is subject to
plot plan and site design ap-
proval by council.
Council praised Suncoast
Estates for the manner in
which it prepared its presen-
tations to the Planning Board
and to 'Council. It was further
noted that Suncoast was as
close to meeting all of the
requirements of the new plan
as possible.
A third recommendation in
the ,Manning Board report to
ask tric Krohmer for further
details on his proposed con-
dominium on Gibbons Street
was also approved by concii.

The tender , of Glenmark
Lumber was accepted for
providing materials for the roof
of the shelter in H rbt r' Park.
Cost is $998.58 wit the work
to be done by the town crew.
Councillor Leroy Harrison
who was in charge of the ten-
ders, said in his opinion , the
materials will amount to much
closer to $500 because it was
his understanding that some of
the present roofing materials
could be utilized.
Two other local lukber com-
panies bid on the project, Jet%
fery Lumber and Conklin's
Discount Dave. It was noted
there appeared to be some dif-
ference in, the way in which the
bids were invited, and Ken
Hutchins, in the audience
because of another matter,
reminded council of the impoe-
tance of making certain that all
bidders knov6 exactly what they
were bidding on.

Councillor Frank Walkom
dreW council's ,attention to a
letter which had appeared in
the Letters to the Editor
column in The Goderich
Signal -Star regarding an in-
cident involving a Bedford
Hotel guest and the local
police.
"My faith is in the local
police force," said Walkom.

Councillor Frank Walkom
admits he's too old for the
revelry of youth which may be'
one of the reasons he proposed
two lights be installed in
Bingham Park, a favorite spot
for Goderich's youth.
The "exorbitant" cost of the
lights didn't deter Walkom
from his suggestion, either. He
said the total cost of the project
has been estimated at $651.
Deputy -reeve Stan Profit
quipped there was still one
park in town without lights,
that being the Soccer Park.
Councillors only smiled and
moved on to other pressing
business.

reported it hopes to take
ownership, of the airport
property "very soon"; learned
of a new pet shop and poodle
parlor to be opened at the site
of the former Lori Lynn Beauty
Parlor; and agreed that the Ad-
ministrative Committee of
council should meet with a
committee of Goderich Lions to
discus, plans for the 25th
edition of the Lions Peewee
Hockey Tournament during the
