Engagement and wedding rings ecerve as a
visible expression of a couple's love and affec-
tion, and the vows which they have ex-
changed. Consequently, th choice of the
rings is an important one nd should be
carefully considered.
The presentation of an engagement ring
is a fairly recenecustom. Unlike the wedding
ceremony, it serves no purpose other ,than
being a visible token that a girl has accepted
as her intended husband, the man'who gives
her the ring.
However, an engagement ring is not a
mandatory gift, and often a family heirloom,
such as a brooch or earrings is given to the
bride -elect by her fiance.. A popular engage-
ment ring is one which spells a word like
"dear" or "love" by using gems whose first
letters spell the word.
* '
FOR EXAMPLE, a band could be set with
1)iartrond, an Emerald, an Amethyst and a
Ruby: spelling "dear."
If the man does wish to present a ring to
his chosenbride, the couple may then choose
to select the ring together and perhaps at
the same time choose a wedding ring.
It should be noted, however. that almost
any ring can be made larger or smaller if
the man wishes to choose his gift himself
and make the . presentation of it a complete
surprise.
There are no rules about engagement rings,
either. The girl's birth stone is a very appro-
priate gem for an engagement ring. Pearls
