Business was booming at the
Goderich waterfront during the
last week as a steady flow of
ships made their way in and
out of the local harbor.
September 11 the Kingdoc,
light out of Detroit, took on
6,000 tons at the DOMTAR
Salt Mine. September 14 the
Parker Evans took on 12,700
tons of salt after arriving light
from Canneaut. The same day
the Babradoc put in, light out
of Detroit, and took on 6,000
tons of salt.'
Rough weather on Lake Huron over the weekend forced the
tug John McLean, towing the barge Charles W. Johnston, to
take, refuge In Goderich Harbor from late Saturday afternoon
until Monday morning. The barge was loaded with 1600 tons
of White Quartz from Little Current boundfor refineries at
Windsor. The load on the Johnston left very little freeboard
on her stern section and waves of between six and 12 feet
threatened to swamp' her from behind. (staff photo).

The Goderich United team
also started the regular
scheduled "season on the right

visiting Clinton squad 1-0 on
March 6.
Since that first game, the
Goderich team has played 11,
winning 8, losing 2, and having
twci- ties to remain tied for first
spot in their division. Coin-
cidentally, the team Goderich is

Coach Stan Profit states "if
we can win our division title
this year we can be promoted to
the second division for the 1974
season". He also said that "this
team is great to work with
because there is a noticeable
spirit of co-operatio,i -'"'among
the players".

"Although there is a great
deal of talent on this year's
team, one has to give special
recognition to Refflinghaus,"
stated Profit. ,
"If soccer was as big in
Canada as, hockey, Harold
would be in the price bracket of
hockey's superstars," he added.
One thing that coach Profit is
absolutely sure about is the fact
,that Goderich United is going
to win their league this season.
He looks forward to the
possible formation of a Huron
Senior Soccer League as it
would give the area minor
players a place to play once
they became overage.
Goderich United has three
home games remaining in their
schedule.
On September 23 they play
here against the London Olym-
pians and on October 7 the big
contest of the remaining games
takes place when the London
United team Visits Goderich.
Coach Profit and his players
"want this victory so bad we
can taste it", he 'stated. •
The final home game of the
season for the Goderich °Soccer
Club will be played on October
21 as the London Carnival team
are the visitors.
Coach Profit urges local fans
to come out and support this
team in their remaining games.
"These men deserve the
town's support as they are the
best senior team'' that 'I've seen
in Goderich", beamed Profit.
