Garbutt Smith presided at the regular meeting of the Huron -Perth TB and Respiratory Disease Association, held in Seaforth, last Wednesday. Routine reports were given by Mrs. Edith Brothers, Rehabilitation and Patient Ser- vices; Mrs. Edith Fisher, Education; Ralph Goren, Christmans Seal Campaign and Financial. Mrs. Brothers reported that the Association is enjoying the services of a University Harbor Report Business was booming at the Goderich waterfront during the last week as a steady flow of ships made their way in and out of the local harbor. The same day the Babradoc put in, light out of Detroit, and took on 6,000 tons of salt.' Rough weather on Lake Huron over the weekend forced the tug John McLean, towing the barge Charles W. Johnston, to take,refuge In Goderich Harbor from late Saturday afternoon until Monday morning. The barge was loaded with 1600 tons of White Quartz from Little Current boundfor refineries at Windsor. The load on the Johnston left very little freeboard on her stern section and waves of between six and 12 feet threatened to swamp' her from behind. (staff photo). Storm forces barge to shelter Over the weekend stiff winds --whipperf-Lake Huron up- to six and 12 foot swells and as a result forced the ore barge Charles W. Johnston, towed by the tug` o n McLean out of Sault Ste Mar , to take refuge in Goderich Harbor. The tug's skipper, Ed Nelson. said the waves were rolling as high as 12 feet at times and due to the heavy load the barge carried threatened to swamp her stern section which was sit- ting precariously low in the water. The Goderich United team also started the regular scheduled "season on the right "foot" as they edged the visiting Clinton squad 1-0 on March 6. Since that first game, the Goderich team has played 11, winning 8, losing 2, and having twci- ties to remain tied for first spot in their division. Coin- cidentally, the team Goderich is tied with is also named United being an entry from London. Coach Stan Profit states "if we can win our division title this year we can be promoted to the second division for the 1974 season". He also said that "this team is great to work with because there is a noticeable spirit of co-operatio,i -'"'among the players". One thing that coach Profit is absolutely sure about is the fact ,that Goderich United is going to win their league this season. He looks forward to the possible formation of a Huron Senior Soccer League as it would give the area minor players a place to play once they became overage. Goderich United has three home games remaining in their schedule. On September 23 they play here against the London Olym- pians and on October 7 the big contest of the remaining games takes place when the London United team Visits Goderich. Coach Profit and his players "want this victory so bad we can taste it", he 'stated. • The final home game of the season for the Goderich °Soccer Club will be played on October 21 as the London Carnival team are the visitors. Coach Profit urges local fans to come out and support this team in their remaining games. "These men deserve the town's support as they are the best senior team'' that 'I've seen in Goderich", beamed Profit. n The Troisdoc, Light out of Rochester, New York, put in on September 16 and took on 6,800 tons. The following day the E.B. Barber. arrived light out of Fairport and took on 14,000 tons. At the grain elevators on September 12 the Quedoc loaded 455,000 bushels of ex- port wheat. September 15 the tug John McLean towing the barge Charles W. Johnston put in to wait out bad weather. Power Squadron plans safe boating classes Goderich Power Squadron is one "of 120 units of Canadian -Power Squadrons, a nationwide organization which instructs classes, in safe boating during the fall and winter months. This Squadron serves all of Huron County and portions of Lambton (Grand Bend area), and Bruce (Kincardine area). This year, registration will take place in Central Huron Secondary School, Clinton, on Wednesday, September 26, from, 7 to 8.30 p.m. Classes will commence on Wednesday, Oc- tober 3, in the same place from 7.30 to 8.30 p.m. and continue every Wednesday evening.
