"I have spoken with both taxi company representatives," said Dymond in his letter," and both feel that their respective charges are justified. Also, I have met -with the seniors, and the majority of them require rides and would take a taxi. If the service was cancelled, a number of seniors would not be able to attend at all." Dymond referred to a suggestion that a service club in Goderich be approached to finance the project. "This is a possible alter- native, if the taxi costs can no longer be covered by the Town," wrote Dymond. Inn. inter leisure interests for all Last week Goderich Recreation Director Mike Dymond published an adver- tisement regarding fall programs to.be operated by the Recreation and Community Center Board locally. "The ad is a feeler really," Mr. Dymond explains, "to see if there is interest in certain ,programs and which programs show enough interest to be in- stituted and further planned." One of those suggested programs would be the for- mation of aCouncil for the Arts. Such a group, involving local people with an interest iii the arts, could do a great deal for that area of the com- munity's life. the recreation director.feels, and the item was included, like the others, to see. if there was enough interest to begin further organization. The purpose of an Arts Coun- cil would be to stimulate, en- courage and support the development:_.(!f the visual and performing arts at all levels. It would provide opportunities for year-round participation in a wide selection of cultural ac- tivities and programs could be organized for all ages from pre school to retirement. One interested person or group could spark this collec- tive action, the bulletin suggests. This might be the municipal recreation depart- ment, an activity group, a craft- ,sman or community -minded citizen. Among the group interests would be dance, -art, drama, puppetry, music, crafts, sculp- ture, photography, flower arranging, reading and speaking groups. If Organized, an executive «RED& WHITE F000 STORES committee should direct the council's activities. Sub committees would be named to handle program. finances and publicity. Another aim of the council would be to encourage effective communication between mem- bers and •other community organizations, • amateur and professional -craftsmen, recreationists, the media and the general public. Successful community arts councils now exists in several communities and„ the Youth and Recreation Branch program consultants would put local organizers in touch with these councils and the advisory services provided by the Depar- tnient and the Ontario Council for the Arts. Among the other suggested programs Mr. Dymond lists on his feeler advertisements are Men's Fitness, Yoga, and tlte- Satur•day Morning Club, all of which the Recreation Director f6 i will likely be on the gci this fall. interest is also being sought in other programs such as a ladies' recreational and fitness program, flower arranging, ladies day out, advanced photography, music ap- preciation, karate, home in- terior decorating, wine making and abstract art. Anyone interested -in taking part in any of these suggested - activiti44 is asked to contat-t the Recreation Directors Office. Volunteers who might have a talent needed to lead these or other activitie are also asked to' get in touch with Mr. ,Dymond. SMILE! What is one's conscience? If I keep on going wrong, soon the corners wear off and it does not hurt anymore." J. M.
