The big rebuilding job facing coach Donnelly is on defence, with only five of last ;year's starting defence returning. Tough defensive play has been a characteristic' of Viking teams in the past, so it is around the returnees that Don- ngllyw izt3trst".tebuild- the -defen- sive unit. Dave Patterson returns at defensive 'end along with Jim Durst, while Tim McGee at defensive tackle, Murray Haggitt at middle linebacker and Casey Wildgen at defensive, halfback are the other returnees. The junior Vikings, under coaches Phil Bugler and Bill Garrow, had a record turnout of over 60 candidates at training camp. Many of those turning out were first year can- didates, but the coaches report that good size is one quality .a they are riot short on. , Gerry O'Brien and, Lee Ar- bour are holdovers at fullback,. with Mark Kernighan at tackle, Jed DeJong at centre, and John Denomy,an Brian Ken - well returning at halfback. Golfers! Golfers! Where did they all come from? That was the question that was moat frequently asked around the Club House on Sunday. The. answer to this goes to the great group of fellows from Lon- desboro and to the'* Bluewater Shriners' Club who held their fall tournament on Sept. 9. The Londesboro group star- ted out to be a few fellows get- ting together to play golf once or twice a season and ended up being a group of 60 very energetic and '° enthusiastic golfers. Randy Miller was the over-all winner. The Bluewater Shriners' held their first tournament at the Sunset with John Kane receiving the trophy for the third time. The ladies' results of day: Verna Kane with first low gross; Vivian Smith, first low net; Willa Williams, second low net. Ken Fleet took first low net; Willand Aiken second low gross; Fra k Pyke second low net. Da ess is settling_ in early now fellows so we must be on the tee by 5:30 to complete our nine holes„ of golf on Men's Nite. Last week winners were low gross: Paul Baechler; Low Net Roy Telford; first flight winners: Geo Low, Denis Lassaline, and Doug Spitzig. Second flight winners: Mark Lassaline, Eric McNee, Bruce Lyndon. Third flight winners: Andy Smith, Ray Cook and John Sturdy. This week the men will use only two clubs pleas their putter for a real fun night of golf. Attention Ladies! Joyce has a fun'filled'night lined up for you this week. Lots of surprises during the golf game as well as a Pot Luck Supper and an auc- tion after. We welcome the Industrial Acceptance Corporation; Goderich Psychiatric Hospital and the Benmiller Foresters to (he Sunset this week. On Sept. 19 the Annual Fall Ontario Provincial Police -Golf Tournament will take place. Leroy is working very hard to have the course in good shape for these fellows. Sign in at the Pro Shop anyone wishing tickets for this Tournament - first come - first served basis. Playoffs begin this week. The second place Braves are playing the third place Giants in a beat of three series. Their first game was played oh Tuesday, with the second game going tonight (Thura,lay) at 6 p.m. The winner of this series will meet the first place Dodgers- for the championship. In Friday's game, the Dodgers 'picked up four runs in each of the first two innings enroute to their win. Larry -Madge allowed only one hit in thee three inning game, and 'was `the winning ` pitcher for the Dodgers. The Braves used three pit- chers: Steve Callow, Mike Reynolds and Randy Graham': Ross McNee was taken to Goderich hospital on 'Mc ay by ambulance. Mr. and Mrs. er Rutledge visited in Toron o for the weekend. Mrs. Howard Sproul is home from the London hospital.; Mr. and Mrs. Norval Ander- son of Toronto visited with Mrs. Agnes Foster and family for the weekend. .\ Chester McPhee is in London hospital. Canadian Legion Mrs. Bill,` Million of Goderich 'became the lucky winner of $1404 as first prize in the Legion's monthly 50-50 Club drawing. Harold Allen, also of Goderich, won $200 in the draw as the second place ticket to be pulled and Mrs. Tom Young will have an extra COO to spend this week having been the holder of 'the third place ticket. Mrs. Young is also of Goderich. John Bedard won the Legion award for having sold the most tickets during the month of August. Tickets are now on sale by Legion members for the 50-50 Clubs September` drawing.
