RECREATION
An interested group of men
and women attended 'the
Colborne Township Recreation
Committee meeting in the
Carlow Hall Tuesday, August
28. The meeting opened with
Wm. Bogie in the chair and
members enjoyed an improm-
ptu discussion on various
phases of recreation.
Several complimented highly
on the ,way the swimming
lessons were carried out from
the time the children were
picked up till they were retur-
ned. They felt this project was
well organized. The secretary
was instructed to write Mike
Dymond, Goderich Recreation
Manager, and Miss Daphne
Graham, Pool Supervisor, ex-
pressing thanks for a job well
done.
The Softball Committee
received high praise for their
part in recreation. A special
vote of thanks was extended to
Wm. Jewell, manager of the
Softball Committee for a well
organized schedule which ad-
-ded -greatly to the harmony of
the game and Mr. Jewell
thanked the coaches for their
untiring efforts in helping the
children: enjoy softball.
' Grant MacPhee reported in
regard to the Hiking Trail, due
to increased work in this field
the Sweep Program will not be
carried out until the summer of
1974 but all effort will be made
to have everything in readiness
for that time -so-this can be .a...
reality in 1974.
The Snowmobile Club, due to
the activities of the summer
reaction period is not active but
within the next few months this
will get started again. It was
most gratifying to hear from
these present the favorable
comments regarding the
projects this Committee started
and -express regret -that- Mrs.
John Hazlitt, president,' was
not present to o receive them-:-- •
It was due to her untiring ef-
forts and her keen interest that
these projects are now a reality.
The parents of children in
Colborne Township who have
benefited will appreciate all
"she tried to do for recreation.
.Due to Mrs. Hazlitt's
resignation Wm. Bogie was_
named - president, which
received unanimous applause.
Mrs. Kaitting asked to resign
- as secretary, .and said she
hoped to act in the capacity of
getting projects started for mid-
dle-aged and older men and
women in the township. Miss
Helen Brindley, a member of
the committee Once it started,
was named secretary.
Minutes of the last meeting
were read and adopted. A roll
call will be made of all present
who will forts the new Commit-
tee which will have its next
meeting Tuesday evening Sep-
tember 25 at 8:30 p.m. at
Carlow Hall.
SOFTBALL
The Softball games have
been very interesting and with
favorable weather the schedule
has run smoothly. Henry Kolk-
man coached the Nile Inter-
mediates which didn't make
the Playoffs and Don Duff
coached the Benmiller Inter-
mediates which lost to St.
Helens.
The Playoffs were completed
when the Saltford Sluggers,
with Ken Duncan as coach and
his son Don ,puncan as
manager of the team, won the
game against the Benmiller
Braves this past Monday night
with a score of 3 - 0. It was the
best three games out of five and
a no -bitter game for Don Bogie
who pitched for the winning
team.
A 'wonderful crowd was on -
hand to cheer the teams and.
this- was 16o -it encouraging.
This adds up to the Saltford
Sluggers, with Ken Duncan
coach; winners in the boys 12 -
15; The Benmiller Yankees

ners in boys 11 anH': under.
