Fantatitic!That its the only
way to describe the Couples'
Tournament of last Saturday..
This tournament is becoming
more and more popular, every
year thanks to Doris and Stan
Paquette and a few others who
really put forth a great effort to
make it so successful.
Not only -that, but Doris got a
birdie for her efforts, literally I
mean. She actually hit 'a, sea
gull in flight! I understand that
Bill Huff breathed a few sighs
of relief, afterseveral of his
shots bounced -back out of the
rough!
There were prizes for the top
nine winners in both Low Gross
and Low Net divisions, and
they are as follows: 1st L. G,
Don and Jean Black (Kitchener
Rockway); 1st L. N. Bill and
Marie Huff (Goderich); 2nd L
G. Fred Palmer and Reva
Johnson (Indian Hills); 2nd L.

very strong, opposition to it was
also strong. Nevertheless, the,
advocates of Temperance were
feverish in their conviction that
drink was the instrument of the
Devil. They upheld the Scott
Act, and fought against the
issuance of liquor licenses to
any establishment in the
vicinity.
Young Children were en-
couraged to take the Pledge in
order to grow up straight and
pure, resisting the temptations
of the blasphemous beverage.
Alcohol could be blamed for
almost -every affliction- and --
deformity known to mankind
by these stalwart citizens.
The newspaper carried this
comment on July 4, 1884; "The
Scott Act is the principal topic
now and. many .farmers have
determined to raise More stock
with their barley and less
hell."

you are closest to the pin, one
point if you sink your ball first,
and, one point if you have the
lowest score on that hole.
The following' were the win

out in their own perspiration,

.was a hot one! Nevertheless,
they drove on. I understand no
one came near the locker room
when they finished' The' win-
ners of the night were Jack
Hoffinever, Jack Hinton, John
Kane, and Bob McDougall.
There were some very good
films shown after, on instruc-

home a few good pointers.

continued into the 1920's but .by
this time, most of its punch had,
been diluted. Canada had
decided that the drink -waw not
as devastating as had been
suggested in' earlier years.
However, the Temperafice
Hall had been put into good
use. For two generations it was
used as a meeting place for the
"Pure Retreat Division" as
well as church tea meetings,
elections, and other gatherings.
In 1936 the building was finally
torn down, its use outlived."
The book will likely be prin-
ted this fall and be distributed
-in the local schools_ as well as.
book stores. However only
about 600 are expected to be
printed.
"To these students who
worked on the book, it was a
real experience that they will
not soon forget'.:', stated
Doherty.
The project began June 25
and will be finished August 31.
Dear Ann -Landers: May I
speak in behalf of old gaffers
who stash girlie pictures? I am
one of them.
Women can't understand the
male sex drive because they
don't have it. It's a physical ap-
petite, an animal lust. A
mature man can refuse to cater
to these instincts, but - the cost is
high in terms of tension and
anxiety. If girlie pictures help,
why not?
I wouldn't trade my wife for
Aphrodite, but when I hanker
after something different I look
at my "harem" of redheads,
blondes and raven -tressed
sirens. That's all I need.
Believe -.mer-A-ny , h wouldn't go
across the street to be with one
of these women. All I want is to
enjoy their pictures.
Tell the wives who are upset
to think about it this way: If
your aging Romeo ,.is stashing
photos, ,comfort yourself with
the fact that he loves you too.
much to go on the prowl. Don't
feel that you are inadequate.
You aren't. HE is. Keep loving
him because he loves you. His
childish behavior doesn't
reflect on that love any more
than his yen for sauerkraut.
—Dayton Looker
Dear Dayton: You soand like
a sweet, harmless, plain-spoken
case of arrested development.,
Thanks for writing.
,., Dear Ann Landers: Our son,
age 16, is going with an attrac-
tive girl who is 15. Linda is
well-mannered and likable.
The problem is her parents'
idea of discipline.
The girl can have two dates a
week, /Friday and Saturday
night. She must be at home by
12:30 a.m. So far; so good—but
listen to the 'rest of it. Her
parent* are very, strict about
her being in on time8but once
she is home her• date can stay
as late as he pleases.
Last night Willard came in at
4:10 -a.m. I was worried sick
but° my husband wouldn't let
me phone Linda's house to
check and see if he was there.
Question: If Willard stays
beyond 1:00 a.m., would it, be
proper to call and ask the girl's
father to send him home? Or
should we ` sit ' tight (my
husband's idea) and let the boy
use his own judgment?Mum
And Peppy
Dear M. and P.: You',ve been
letting the boy use his- awn
judgment and it's terrible,
Set a curfew for Willard and
see that he abides by it or suf-
fers the consequences. Just
because boys don't° get pregnant
doesn: t mean they .should be
allowed to .run wild.
Dear- Ann Landers: A man
I've been ril tiri'g asked me
would consider -marrying him. I
said I didn't know, He replied,
"I'm' not so sure about you,
either." Then he pulled a piece
of paper out of his pocket and
presented a list of queiions he
wants answered:
Do you need any dental work"
done? Do you owe any large
debts? Do you have any
allergies? Have - you had your
appendix or gall bladder out?
I was shocked. He explained
that his ex-wife clipped him for
huge medical and -dental bilis,
a bank loan, etc., and he wasn't
going to make the same
mistake again. WlTt do you
think of a man who would
place such conditions :on
marriage? ---Miss Baffled
Dear Baff: I think you don't
need a creep like that for a
,husband. Suggust tharlhe run
an ad. .,
