Busy summer for art c

Goderich Art Club spent a day
at Southampton Art School.

Edna Johnson of Goderich.,
In August, the second visit of
Art Trek, sponsored by" the

was an outstanding success, at
the Queen Elizabeth School
froth Tuesday August 21 to
Friday August 25.
Over • 80 people attended,
with the age range from 7 to 70,
and kn average, of 30 par-
ticipated in each morning and
afternoon session. Everyone
found valuable ideas and in-
spirations and instruction -from
the two teachers .in charge of
this activity.
An excellent selection of
materials was available for the
various media including clay
for sculpture, linoleum for print
making, acrylics and oils for
painting, looms and wool for
weaving, cords of various
colours for macrame, batik,
and tie dye.
On Thursday evening, Helen
Hanot showed slides of her
many fascinating '(apestries,
and explained some of the
weaving techniques. involved.
Bob Hirano's slides included
his sculpture work, dravyings,
and "collages.
Seminars such as these are
necessary foK, small clubs_ jn
rural and urban areas away
from the larger metropolitan
areas, to enable the members to
study trends in art and develop
interest in many forms of art,
and to acquaint artists with the
various materials on the
market and the use to which,
these products may be -put.
Many of those who attended
last year, returned this year.
More teenage youngsters par-
ticipated in all the sessions.
This year, the addition, of
weaving, brought out a number
of Huron County weavers who
were in search of ideas, and an-
swers to questions and
problems which they had en.
countered.
