According to the accepted
record, Dr. Hamilton was born
in Cork, Ireland, in 1810. When
he turned over his stable
described as "near Carroll's
cooper shop," he was 27. The
cooper shop, now a residence,
cuddles the A & P store, and On
the site of the stable is Alexan-
der Smith's house.
Even earlier, Morgan
Hamilton gets mention in local
history. When Thomas Knee-.
shaw in 1834 built a frame
house, expecting to be married
the next year, Dr. Hamilton
requisitioned it for the 'first
Anglican clergyman, Rev. R.F:
Campbell. Hamilton evidently
was a per.on of influence at age
24. It was in this year, 1834,
that he bought Lot 16 from the
Canada Company (and gave a
mortgage back.)
H'e was a senior officer in the
Huron militia - his com-
missions are in possession of a
tell the tale
and to settle disputed claims, it
would give much more satisfac-
tion to the parties interested,
prove a great saving to the
public exchequer, prevent much
of the fraud and favoritism now
so generally complained of, and
secure a much more Prompt
and efficient discharge of duty
than has yet occurred or can
reasonably be hoped for so long
as the present system shall he
maintained."
The c.c►mmissioners made a
sharp reply to certain letters to
the editor of "a newspaper
published at Goderich Oh-,
viously this was the Huron
Signal, of 'which Thomas
MacQueen was editor. The
communications attributed
"improper motives" to the
commissioners.
"As to motives", (he report
stated, "the Commissioners are
of opinion that if the writers

GODERICH SIGNAL -STA t, THURSDAY, AUGUST 23,,11/73, -PAG$ -1"
Dear Ann Landers: We've
been married eight years. I've
held a job with the same firm
all this time. I took off seven
`weeks when our twins were
born.
My husband quit -his fifth job
two months ago. He had made
only a token effort to find work
and now he tells me he doesn't
care if he finds'anvthing or not.
In fact, he's not sure he would•
accent a position if it were of:
fered to him. The competition
of the business world, h,.e says,
makes him nervous. ,
What he'd like to do is stay
at home and take care of the
children. Very voun,g ones, he
insists, need at least one
parent's guidance and since
I'm gone from 8:00 a.m.–until
6:30 p.m. they aren't getting
much from me.
I hate housework. He loves
it. And his cooking is terrific.
He is also better with the
babies than I am. Frankly,
Ann, kids make me nervous.
How canI I;et him tit quit sit-
ting around and get a job? Or
should I even bother, since he
obviously prefers homemaking
to real work.and I have always
made more money than `ply

real work. (You sound like a
man, honey.) Since the business
world makes your husband ner-
vous and the kids make YOU
nervous, I see nothing wrong
with reversing the traditional
roles and each of vou doing
what vou do hest and enjoy
most. In my opinion the,
children would also profit from
this arrangement.
Dear Ann Landers: This is
