If you're thinking of leaving school,
please take time to read this messy
it could change your entire future,
The greatest asset of a young person starting out in life is a bro,.d general
education. In an age of transition, rapid change and expansion it is difficultto see
the requirements of the future. For this reason the young man or woman who has
acquired knowledge; -broadened his mind and developed his potential will have an
advantage. 1n Canada where over half of the population is under twenty five years of
age, the competition for positions in industry, business and the• professions will
become more intensified.
The Secondary'School Graduation Diploma offers to ,a student a greater chance
for success in a highly competitive society. Education, however, offers much more
than, a diploma. Education is a continuous process, a never-ending process; a
never-ending preparation of the individual to develop a respect for others, and -a set
of enduring values F : values. related to friendship,' wealth, property, knowledge and
ideals. A continuing education prepares the individual for those activities which
promote personal development, personal happiness, and a worthy use of leisure
time.
The recent report of the Provincial Committee on aims and objectives of
Education .in Ontario_ states, "The underlying aim of education is to further man's
unending search for truth. Once he possesses the means to truth, all else&is within his
grasp. Wisdom and 'understanding, sensitivity, compassion and responsibility, as well
as intellectual honesty and personal integrity will be his guides in adolescence and
his companions in maturity."
An educational system which foscuses on `the individual can prepare a young
person not only to meet the challenges of a future society but also to be in a
position to contribute to a rewarding way of living.
