HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Goderich Signal-Star, 1973-07-26, Page 5--"Mer matters involving the
Goderich Industrial Park were
before Town Council at their
regular meeting last Thursday.
Over the protest of Coun•
cillor Stan Profit'the, Dominion
Road Machinery Company will
be taking out a 10 year optio9
on property for possible future
expansion in the Industrial ,
Park.
The point in question, in Mr.
Profit's view., wa,a -the price of
$1,000 per acre for the serviced`
industrial lots.
"In 10 years time $1,000 per
tacre will be just a joke," Mr.
.Profit said at Thursday's
meeting.
Councillor Dave Gower
agreed with Mr. Profit but
noted, "The price is ridiculous
even now, but we want to en-
courage industry."
When Dominion Road
Machinery purchased the land
upon which they are presently
building new facilities earlier
,this year they asked to take out
an option of five years ,on ad-
joining acreage. Shortly after-
ward the company reconsidered
the . application and increased
the request to one for a 10 year
option.
DRMCO president Bruce
Sully expiained to the Goderich
Industnia.l Commission in ,
making the application that
five years was too short a time
in which to conduct the
necessary surveys and 'planning
that must precede. any expan-
sion or construction.
The DRMCO application was
appXoved by council with only
Councillors Profit and Elsa
_Hut flop not supporting the
motion.
In other business involving
,the industrial park Council ap-
proved an exchange of proper-
ties "between Signal Star
Publishing Ltd. and Linton and
Hirst Limited. '
The matter came before
council as an item in the
minutes of a special Industrial
• Commission meeting.
It was noted in the minutes
that Dan Murphy informed the
Commission that' all
arrangements had been made
with . the parties involved and
that it was neFessary to
• authorize the exchange of
properties by a municipal
bylaw. It was felt that the ex-
change should be on an equal
acres a basis.
'A motion by the Industrial
Commission authorized the
"exchange of Lot Two in the
Industrial Park owned' by Lin-
ton and Hirst Ltd. for Lot Five
and that the exchange of
property be based on an equal
acreage so that Linton and'
Hirst Ltd. receive five acres of
land in Lot Five." '
Town Council upheld ' the
Commission motion by passing
the necessary bylaw at last
Thursday's meeting.
