Each summer, Don (Bgom) -
° Gravett,Reerreeatiori Director *in
Hanover organizes a fun camp
for children between the ages of
8 and 15.
This outing which 'takes
place at Camp .Menesetung,
north of Goderich, • was
operated "from July $ - 15 and
just completed its ninth year.
The majority of young cam-
per come from Hanover as .,the
recitation department sponsors
the program as part of their
summer playground activities.
Guest campers also come
from such places as London,
Exeter, Durham, Walkerton,
Hensall, Elmira, Mildmay and
Kirkton.
This year was a record year
for attendance with 110 cam-
pers assembling at Menesetung.
"The main goal of the camp
program is to just have fun but
many of the activities are also
learning experiences", accor-
ding to Boom. "One of the moat
important things that can be
learned at.camp is to share and
get along with others," stated
Gravett.
The children participate in
such activities as daily camp-
fire programs, crafts, vespers,
swimming in the camp pool, -ac-
tive games, challenge matches
against the staff, sing -songs
and special events.
Some of the special events
that took place during the week
were hikes down the beach, a
track and field meet, a, swim.
meet, nightly cabin skits which
proved to be quite hilarious, a
„ backwards day in which girls
and boys do everything in
reverse; a Monk supper, and a
Vaudeville night.
Crafts which were • made
during the week include attrac-
tive book ends, popsk re stick
articles, bead 'or necklace
pieces, plastic lacing and or-
namental, animal . crltft.
As part of the learning
process, campers each had their
turn at being fags, which meant
washing dishes, cleaning off
tables, setting tables for three
meals a day as well as the bed-
time snack. Each cabin was in-
spected daily by the director,
Gravett and the camp narses
Fred and Hermina Fleet, for
organization, decorating and
cleanliness. Points were given
and accumulated throughout
the week.
At the end of the week
several of the young campers
took home small plaques- or
trophies as tokens of their in-
dividual efforts throughout the
week. Awards were given for
the best male, and female cam-
pers during the week. This
year, these awards were given
to Lori Thibaudeau and Jeff
Mercy both from Hanover.
Other awards were handed
out to winners in the egg
throwing contest,._ track and
field meet, and the swim meet.
Involved in the week- long
event were Camp Director Don
Gravett, Camp Mother Mrs.
Mary Gravett, Mr. Fred and
Hermina Fleet, Camp Nurses,
Debbie Thomas,- -Program
Director; Mary Lou Wendorf
"swim director and Activity
leaders Kris Ashbury, Dan
Janke, Debbie Hoy, Sally Pep-
pler, Dave Roth, Bonnie
McLean, Jannette Wendorf and
Fred Fleet.
As they held their last camp-
fire on Saturday evening, even
as a visitor; ..I. could feel an, at-
mosphere of sadness that the
week was just about past. Cam-
pers as well as" staff several
times ,commented that they
wished there was another week.
For many of the boys and girls
it was the first time that they
have really been- away ..from
home and relatives and it was
probably an experience that
many of them will not forget.
„As I left the camp to the
sounds of their camp yell, I
somehow felt very satisfied that
.I had been a small part of
Camp Boomhra.

avowed mother, this could be
the toughest decision of her life.
In my opinion no one has—i;fie
right. to -,,tell her she must have
her baby. If she wishes to' have
an abortion, it should be within
her, tight.
There are other solutions I
suppose - the best being adop-
tion in my mind. Any child who
is adopted surely must realize
that his parents didn't have to
have° -him - they chose-- him.
That alone should make him
feel -very special. I know that's
how I feel as I was adopted by
the two greatest people in the
world.
Adoption or abortion?_ I still
say its the mother's choice and
no one else's. I just feel sorry
for any girl that has to make a
choice like- that.
'Sincerely
Jane Clancy

. Dear Editor,
Dr. John Whiton of Waterloo
Lutheran University lectured
on' the subject of Abortion in
Seaforth District High School
on May 24th. I'm sure a large
crowd attended and felt it was
very Worth while and now'
realite
that _ -Abortion is -
killing and a Nazi tactic and
must be stopped now.
Experts in the field -of em-
bryology (the science dealing
with the development • of
organising) have established
that a new individual human
life starts at conception. Yet
the laws of'Canada do not keep
pace with ',modern scientific
. • knowledge and reflect the
respect for human life that is
Our heritage.
For these reasons, and in
view of the great increase in the
number of abortions in Canada
in -the last three years, I fee
that the abortion legislatio
should be amended in order
that full and equal recognition
sand- protection be given to all
human life, before birth as well
as after birth.
_ Abortions should not be
removed from the Criminal
Code. -
Last year abortions cost the
Province of Ontario six million
dollars. Wouldn't it be more
sensible to use this money
($6,000,000.) on research and
healing the sick instead of mur-
dering innocent babies who
cannot speak for themselves?
Let us stop destruction and,
seek positive solutions to
problems worthy of almost in:
finite concern. We . can do this
by writing to our members of
parliamentand, express our
views in this terrible issue of
abortion.
