TODAY'S CHILD
BY HELEN ALLEN
-THE TORONTO1.SYNDICATE
Ricky is shy with strangers but managed to muster up a little
smile for the photographer. Among people he knows he is
cheerful and contented, usually easy going and with just an
occasional outburst of temper when things don't, go his way.
Ricky is four, Anglo-Saxon in origin. Short and stocky, he has
-light brown -hair, blue eyes -and fair skin.
Ricky's health is good, with only the odd attack of tonsilitis to
bother him. Tie is active in play, loves to dance and manages to
invent satisfying games for himself when nobody else is around.
Ricky always watches Sesame Street apd enjoys TV cartoons.
He plays a good deal with small cars, making the appropriate.
sounds.
Thoughhe's a sturdy boy, 'Ricky's mental development is
behind the average for his age and he -will need special
education. „
It is hoped an.adopting family will be found where Ricky will
find loving warmth and where he will be able to develop at his
own pace.
To inquire about adopting Kicky. please write to Today's

Good ideas
for recreation
A special meeting held in Clinton last
Thursday night came up with several good
ideas on recreation for senior citizens and
the disabled and it is expected that a
program for these groups may be started in
' the near future. ,.
.The meeting was'' organized by John
Brotherhood and Cheryl Soderlund, two
University of Ottawa students who have
been sent to Clinton in a pilot study by the
sports and recreation branch of the Ontario
ministry of community and social services
The two students are working on the '
government financed projects which are
-looking into recreation availability for
special groups. .
The two students were surprised when
more than 40 people showed up to discuss
the ' what's and where's of recreation
facilities in and around Clinton.
During.. the discussion, which included
Clinton Recreation " Director Bev Wilton,
and Wayne Widdis, a regional consultant
for the sports and recreation branch, many
of the people -expressfd a need for, an
organization of seniorrcitizens as well as a
place where they could meet.
Mention _ wag made too, that an indoor
swimming facility would he an ideal place
for the handicapped as would an adult
workshop to serve both groups.
VariotLti!-service clubs were represented at
the meeting and thought they could
provide leadership or sponsorship to new
programs. Better use could also be made of
churches, schools -and the Community Cen-
tre.
Although the group came up with no coif=
crefe solutions to the problem of recreation
for senior, itizens or the physically and
mentally disabled, the two organizers
thought that a communication gap was
closed' and many more people'in the area
are aware that there are special groups
who don't fit into the town'sgular
recreation programs. .
