Some of the credit for the win
shouldbgo to Pat Conlon who
stopped a Sarnia penalty shot.
Pat normally plays centey
forward, but because of a, bad
ankle tookk over from Jo Jo
Watt in- the goal for the first
half of the game which Jo Jo
played in the forward line.
This was the Falcons best ef-
fort to date as they were
without the services of three
regular players.
COMMENTARY
Over the past two weeks
Goderich soccer teams have
been the victims of circumstan-
ces and,poor sportsmanship.
The Squits played Huron Park'
and beat them 2-0 only to have
the two points taken from them
and awarded to Huron Park
because unknowingly they had
an over age player..on._the _team.
I am the first to admit that
Goderich broke the rules but I
ask you, the ,public, how many
children under or around the
age of eight know the year in
which they were born.
Never the less I would like to
add that the soccer rnad
youngster's have fought back
and are once again on top of
their league in goal average.
Then there was the Exeter
Centennial Cup fiasco, already
reported in last week's paper,,,by
Kaz Budney, in which Goderich
"A" Atoms won the cup only to
have it taken away from them'
because the coach and
Goderich supporters cheered
too much and too. loud.
Sid Allan coach of the'
Goderich'A Mosquito ten a iris
suffered abuse from opposing
coaches because his players are
a little on the large side.
His lads now take birth cer-
tificates with them; but even
this kind of proof did not
satisfy.. a certain coach from
Huron Park even though one of
his own players wasof an
inelligible age.
No action was taken on this
and yet the Squirts lost two
points for doing the same thing.
The moral of this seems to be
that it is all right to play
whatever aged boys yotl like as
long as you don't win.
Last but not. least, 1 tooll..the.
Bantam team down to play in
Huron Park some thirty.. five
miles from Goderich.
On arriving at the groundtti-„..
we found four players, no coach •`.
and no explanation. A com-
ment from one of the four
Huron Park players. *ao- that
we beat them 14-0 'in the last
game so what was .the good of
playing.
As a final word 'I would like
to say to the people of Goderich
that even if you are unable to
support these kids from the side
line perhaps yott could support
them by buying raffle tickets
which will be on sale shortly.
The Goderich Minor Soccer
Club is trying to raise funds for
new equipment and a banquet
for these kids at the end .of the
season.
Th1I group of eight to ten year old Goderich Minor Soccer
players emerged last week from the Exeter Centennial Soc-
cer Tournament with top place and were presented with the_..
Exeter Centennial Trophy. They Were not allowed to keep the
trophy however due to a rule dispute between coaches and
organizers of the tournament. Team members are, left to
right, back; Jim Mather., Bob Penniskerr, Jim - Huff, Dennis
Aubin, Rob Mcjntyre, Larry Boyce and Chris Pitre. Front,

Sandy's has been the hottest club of late' and have lifted their
record to 10-4-1. These two teatns meet tonight in .what should
prove to.. be , wild and woolly affair.
There have been imply one run ball games this year.and the`um-
piring has been "exciting" as well as the action.
Attendance at the ball games (and the Legion)` haspicked up

The Expos continue to impress Major League Observers with
their solid baseball. Their hitters have been hot this year and if
„ the starting pitchers can achieve a respectable degree of con-
sistency, then the Expos will be there in September. A World
Series _appearance in just 5 years???....I read in the major.
newspapers that a young lady (aged 11) wants to play Little League
baseball in Ipsilanti, Michigan but the Little League Congress in
Williamsptrt, Penna. won't allow it.
Anyways, they are having quite a heated debate about Civil
Rights and the, right of this young lady to invade that sacred Male
institution of American baseball. I wonder, what would happen if
the young lady was at bat and "schmuch!" - a bean ball on the old
nnsteirior - or consider a nasty little second baseman hanging a
"clothesline" for her as she tries to go from 1st to third. I'd like to
see how the situation works out....Eddie Shack, more affec-
tionately known as the "Entertainer" has returned to the Leafs.
His 25 goal season last year represents ,60 percent of the 4 Leaf
left-wingers total of last year. In fact the Leafs have made
numerous acquisitions in the off season creating competition £for
jobs on the team - something that wasn't- there last
year Secretariat (nowknown as the `•`Ole stud" eats Wheaties
