On June 29, 1973, Alvin
Sherwood was presented with a
framed certificate in
recognition of 25 years of ser-
vice as postmaster in Dungan- .
non.
The area manager, Mr. R.B,-"—
Kueneman, asp the supervising
postmaster, Mr. A.M. Homuth,
Goderich, made the presen-
tation. This honour is .shared
by Mfrs. Alvin Sherwood who is
the assistant and cis in the office
most, of ,the time.
Alvin Sherwood was appoin-
ted postmaster of Dungannon
in the Spring of 1947 suc-
ceeding the. late Mr. Thomas
Stothers who had . held the
position for 35 years (1912-
1947). The late Mr. W.A.
Stewart was an assistant.
The location of the P.O. was
changed from the bank block to
farther south' on main street -
Southampton St.
R.R. 1, Dungannon has 65
boxholders and is over 20 miles
long. It covers the fourth and
sixth concessions of Ashfield
township to the Bluewater
highway as well as .seven spur
lines on the sideroads in bet-
ween. This' is aeia, increase in,
numbers, and a few name
changes have been made.
