Fog didn't stop the fun
Huron County boaters who
make Snug Harbor at Goderich
their home port officially
opened the 1973 boating season
on Sunday with the annual
Power Squadron Sail Past.
More than 20 decorated boats
took part in the event despite a
thick fog which rolled in en-
veloping the harbor about one
hour before the event got un-
derway.
An additional 11 boats set
out from the Bayfield harbor to
join Snug Harbor boaters in the
sail past but were forced back
due to the extremely poor
visibility.
"Felicity", a 20 foot inboard
outboard runabout, owned by
Gerd Burgel of ..London, was
presented with the top award
for the best decorated boat in
the 'fleet.' `Mr. $urNeUis Firat

Mr. Burgel's craft was color-
fully decorated with streamers
and flowers and sported a
spouting whale on the foredeck.
The boats formed up in
Goderich Harbor and then
sailed past the reviewing stand
as they put out through the
shipping channel. • The Power
Squadron salute was taken by
District Commander W.A.
Hallatt and Commander Budd
Kuehl.
As the boats passed the
reviewing stand they dipped
the Canadian ensign by
lowering .it _ to half staff or
gathering it by hand t� the staff
or by lowering both the flag
and the staff to horizontal.
Following the parade of

details of the poll shall be
reported to the Board as soon
as possible thereafter.

Power Squadron executive
members hosted a light refresh-
ment hour for the participants
at Snug Harbor.
"Butterfly Two", now the
largest boat moored at Snug
Harbor, was to have arrived in
Goderich in time for the
festivities but like the Bavfield
boats was kept out of port until
after the Sail Past had been
completed.
The new ,boat is owned by
E3ruce Sully and is a 43 foot
ocean racing sloop. The custom
built .‘'ellow.and black craft put
into Snug Harbor when the fog
lifted at about 3:00 p.m.
