HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Goderich Signal-Star, 1973-06-28, Page 4• PAGE --GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, THURSDAY, JUNE 28, 1973 ROUND AND ABOUT WITH MARINA The last few weeks have been full of excitement, frustration and headaches. We can skip the last two as they go with the house. There has been three weeks of very interesting Supreme Court cases and my privilege to meet her Ladyship Judge Van Camp of Toronto, who was he'Le for one of the busiest weeks any Judge has had in many a year. Altho' she looked, very stern in her photo a couple4of weeks ago in the Signal, she was very gracious and had the nicest smile and sense of humor. • • I was ''just bustin my but- tons" by the end of, that long, long week to think and see that a woman could handle such a difficult position as Supreme ourt Judge... AND I believe the only woman judge in Supreme Court in Canada. I was allowed in the "Inner Sanctum" - a lovely room set aside for the judges where they can relax and study and talk to the lawyers about their problems. I helpt her with her gown and tried not to be' all thumbs with the many snaps and but- tons which complicate these costumes. All in all it was all very thrilling to me and I was very proud of our lovely lady - Ladyship - ger honor? When I read and see the stupid and willful damage that has been done to the bandshell in Harbour Park and other in- cidents around the town I can't' help but. wonder how the judges can keep their cool when these cases appear before them. It makes you wonder where it is all going to end. Anot4er great experience was the Administration of Oaths of Office - to His tIonour Judge Francis G. Carter new judge of County Court for the County of Huron: I have never - • even in a movie, seen so many distinguished and handsome judges assembled in one cour- troom. There were at least a dozen in their black gowns and soft purple sashes - sitting together at one side of the cour- troom by the Grand Jury Box. Judge Carter's family filled the Petit Jury box - and they, too, were very distinguished in my estimation. What a wonder- ful family - someone referred to them as His Honours ball team The Courtroom is not .a happy place - except on such an occasion such as this - or when the New Canadians take their oath of allegiance. That, too, is beautiful ceremony - too bad more people don't turn up to witness it. Well this really is "Strawberry Festival Time" The ladies at Benmiller United Church are all set for the rush on Saturday, June 30, you must have a. TICKET or you may miss your dinner. So phone 4- 6327 and make sure of it and enjoy the great Smorgasbord too. The same day June 30, St. Georges Parish Hall will .be crowded with people at their FOOD FAIR (1 p.m.) You can get all kinds of goodies to het f you over the weekend holiday. So be sure to get over.
