ANN RUTLEDGE Funeral _service was held Tuesday, June 19 at the McCallum Funeral Horne for the late Mrs. Ann Rutledge who passed away in Clinton Public Hospital Friday, June 15 in her 88th year. Conducting the service was Rev. G.L. Royal. The daughter of John and Agnes`(Greive) Speir, she was bol n in Brussels May 10, 1885. She moved from arussels to Goderich in 1925 and resided here until taking up residence in Huronview in 197(►. She was predeceased by her husband Peter who passed away in July of 1968, and a daughter Mrs. Verna Sparks who died in February of 1970. Mrs. Rutledge is survived by two daughters Mrs. Joe (Rhea ) Mansor of Toledo, Ohio, and Mrs. Vic (Wilda) Lutrnan" of Long Island, New York, and two sons, Ross of-Goderich-and Jack of Toronto. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Peter Lut- man, Glen Lutman, Mac Sparks, Steven Sparks, 'Mike Neuser and Tim Sparks. Interment was in the Brussels Cemetery. A.E. Tyson who passed away suddenly on June 18 at the age of 72 of a heart attack. The won of Mr. and -Mrs. J.J. Tyson, he was born on May 6, 1901 in Wiarton. He received the bulk of his education in the Wiarton public and secondary school - :-system but later attended ,the University of Toronto. During his work career as a Mining arid Civil Engineer, he helped in the construction of • the Alaska highway. Frorn 1932-42 he resided in Gerald - ton Ontario and then' spent'- some time in the Yukon Territory during the Second. World War. Since 1950, he had lived in Richmond Hill. He was a mem- ber of the Masonic Lodge and 32nd degree (Shriners). He belonged to the Presbyterian Church in Richmond Hill. He is survived by his wife, the former Vera Woods of ---Lueknow whom --he married in --.- Toronto in 1932; also two sons ,James Jackson of Toronto and David Edmund of Brantford; three grandsons; and four sisters, Nrs.. J. (Angela) Dawson of Goderich, Mrs. Malcolm (Alice) White of Wiar- ton, Mrs. R. (Stella► Morton of Orono and Mrs. H.M. (Kathleen) Brown of Toronto. He was predeceased by four hrot hers and one sister: interment was in Cliffside Cemetery at Colpoys' Bay, On- tario. Need, more recreation in nursing homes for the retarded The June meeting of the Goderich and , District Association for the Mentally Retarded was held in the Queen Elizabeth School, Goderich, ,June 18. Fourteen persons were in attendance. Shira•I Soderland from the Ministry of Community and Social Services was present. Special needs of the handicap- ped in the c"ommunity were discussed. George Simons pointed out that in* this aryl, there.is very little organizea. recreation for the mentalli' retarded in the nursing homes. .John Cosgrode said that more needed to he done for the nientaliv retarded in the line of recreation for those in the Psychiatric Hospital. George Simons and Mrs. E. Carroll noted that the retarded tinder the Goderich and District Association for the Mentally Retarded need more social activities. Mfrs. E. Carroll reported on Workshop Activities. Sheaffer Pen and Speidel are quite satisfied with work performed by the trainees. She noted that tiaiey had been recently visited by Mervin Wit- ter of the Goderich Police Department ._and _presented with a cheque for $200 for the Workshop. Mrs. Carroll said she recen- tly toured the Children's Cen- tre in Palmerston and met .Timmy Archer and Tommy Webb, formerly of the local school. Mrs. Maxine Pollock repor- ted that the plans are under- way for camp. George Sinmns is arranging transportation PIT the mentally handicapped to camp. Morris van der Meer gave the treasurer's report. The Homemaker's ('lub recently gave $1:3.3 to the Association. Faye Gautcher of Bluewater Taxi was present at -the meeting and she and Mrs. ('arrol I discussed • transpor- tation for the trainees and students for the fall term. Kowalski and the late Rev, W. Kowalski of Chilliwack, British Columbia. Mr. and Mrs. Currell and .J.N. McKinnon of Goderich at- tended the wedding.
