Minor baseball
Five local teams undefeated
The Huron Minor Soccer
League has been underway for
three weeks now. Out of eight
teams representing Goderich,
five remain undefeated.
The Bantam team coached
by Mervin Witter' and Tony
Jeacock has a four game- win-
ning streak going for them.
After two exhibition games
and two league games they
have,four wins with fifty goals
for and one against.
On June 12th in exhibition
soccer they defeated a
weakened Blyth team -2-0.
Grant Shelton led t q' way
with yet another five /goals,
repeating his performance in
two other games. Other scorers
against Blyth were Pat Conlon
two, Tim McGee two, Jed
DeJong, Mike Andrew . and
Zeke Weerasooriya one each.
On June 17th they traveled
to Clinton and defeated their
roughest opposition yet 7-1.
Grant Shelton was 'again top
marksman with three goals,
Zeke Weerasooriya . two and
Bill Nurse and Iain Lambert„
with one each.

e Pee Wee team coached
by airy Buchanan and Alan
Slater, has a record of three
wins and no losses with 14
goals for and 6 against.
They head their league„with
6 points winning their last
ga�e-fit Clinton 6-4 on June
1dth.
The Mosquito League is also
.topped by a Goderich `Ateam.
Goderich '_'.A" Mosquitos
coached by Sid Allen has the
best record of all the Goderich
teams with 3 league wins and 0
losses, having 28 goats for and
none against for a total of 6
points.
Their last game was played
at home June 16th in which
they defeated Clinton "A", 7-0

share top spot with Clinton
with 2 wins and 1 tie for a total
of 5 points. Winning their last
game in Exeter against Exeter
"A" 2-1 They now have 6 goals
for and 3 against.
In the Squirts League,
Goderich ' A' are also un-
defeated with 3 wtns no losses, 1
with 1 1' "goals ` forand none
against for a total of, 6 points.
Squirts "A" are coached by Jim
Slater. Their last game .was
•played " on and off in rain
against Seaforth "B" but did
not stop them winning 4-0.
The three remaining teams
are holding their -own. In
Mosquitos the "B" team have 1
win, 1 tie, 1 loss, 6 goals for
and 6 against for a total of 3
points.
Atoms "B" have 1 tie, 1 loss,
2 goals for and 4 against for 1
point.
Squirts "B" also have a
record of 1 tie, 1 loss, 1 goal for
7 against for 1 point-.

The Squirt "A•" Team had a
4 - 0 win over Seaforth and so
remain in first place in the
Huron League. Jeff Denomy
continues to bag goals, scoring
four against Seaforth, having
scored three last week against
the Goderich "B" Team. It
looks as if this Team, coached
by Jim Slater, is a force to br.,
reckoned with in the Huron
League.

The Goderich "A" Team
travelled to Exeter and had to
battle from a onegoal deficit to
have 'a good 2 - 1 win. Larry
Kelly scored one goal coming
from a scramble in front of the
BANTAM
The Bantam Team remains
unbeaten following a good 7 - 1
win over Clinton in a game
played'. at Clinton on Sunday.

which ended 1 - 1, but in the

Last weekend's "supposed to
be, "Fall, rain and cold winds
appeared, making golfing very
unrelaxing. Thank goodness
that weather disappeared just
as fast as it appeared.
Our third Hole -in -One was
achieved last Monday Nite by
Bruce Wheeler. . A surprised
look on his face accompanied
his five iron shot when his ball
rolled into the hole on No. 2.
This is the first time this
"stunt" was ever accomplished .
on this particular hole and by a

the winners at the banquet in
Seaforth June 2. Other teams
taking part in the League this
year were from Stratford,
Wingham and Seaforth.
Goderich Rotary juveniles
won their third game Sunday
by defeating Port Elgin by the
score of 10-8.
Casey Wildgen won his
second game of the year. Casey
struck out 10 batters and gave
up only five hits.
Doug Fisher and Ron
Sowerby both hit doubles and
Dave Patterson came up with
3the big hit, , a gland slam.
Gary Yeoman played well,
both on third base and at bat
hitting two singles.
The second game on Sunday
'night between the Rotaries and
Thorndale was not played
because the visitors failed to
show up. Goderich should
become the winner of this
game, also.
On Tuesday, June 19
Goderich played Exeter and
Wednesday the Rotaries played
Auburn.
The Rotary juveniles play
their next home game June 26
when the strong Clinton team

could do last Sunday, right
Juniors. But, a devoted g lfer
won't let the, rain stop them,
and it didn't stop the Juniors.
A lesson was given to each
group and it showed in their
scores as you will see next
week. Winners last week were
Dave Bedour, Mike Milley,
Dennis Reed, Iden Kolkman,
Jim Fritzley and Gerry Gaynor.
The Handicap Chairman for
the Juniors this year is Darlene
Crawford.
On Monday Night the
Kinette's held their Year End
meeting at the Sunset. There
was a good turn out, with ex-
cellent weather and course con-
ditions. They concluded with a
two ball and a steak barbecue.

and the fairways are fairly

balance. The backswing should,

The Walkerton Tykes
capitalized on six walks, five
hits and Goderich fielding
errors' "fo defeat "'the Legion
Tykes 10-2 in Walkerton last
Saturday, June 16.
This was the first loss of the
season for Goderich. The Tykes
have won two and tied one plus
their loss last Saturday. One of
their victories was over
Walkerton in the opening game
of the season.
In Saturday's game, Walker-
ton scored twice in the first in-
ning on two walks and no hits.
They added three more in the
second on three walks and one
Goderich error. One walk
resulted in one run for Walker-
ton in the' third.
Walkerton's final four runs
came in the. fourth on five hits,
their only hits of the game.

Goderich Legion hosted the
Zone CI Legion Pee Wee
Baseball tourpament, Saturday
June 16, with six teams from
the Zone participating —
Exeter, Clinton, Wingham,
Kincardine, Seaforth and
Goderich.
The regular schedule
resulted as follows: Kincardine
11, Clinton 3; Goderich 1p,
Wingham 2; Exeter 8, Seaforth
2.
In the semi final Kincardine
won over Goderich 8-6.
In the championship game
Exeter met Kincardine
P resulting in a score of 5 to 3 in
favor of Exeter.
The Zone CI Legion trophy
was presented to the winning
Exeter team by Zone Comman-
der Harold Chambers.
Kincardine as the runner up,
received the John Huckins
Memorial Trophy donated by

Howard Carroll Zone Sports
Officer.
The trophy for the most
