The Goderich Garden Club is once again holding its annual
Spring Garden Show and as part of activities when the show
opens to the public at North Street United Church Saturday
June 23 the second annual "Guess the Garden" contest will be
held.
Appearing here are a number of local gardens, identified only
by number. Those attending the Garden Show will have the tip-
portt.tnity to guess where each of the gardens shown is located,
place their entries, and possibly win prizes.
Wendy Hornig, speaking on behalf of the Garden Club, noted

that Goderich "has many beautiful gardens, but have people
been noticing them ,
' Keep this page, find as many of the locations as possible and
put answers in the contest box at the Spring Garden Show next
Saturday.
First prize will be a $10 gift certificate from Denomme-Gar-
den ('entre' and ?second prize will be a $5.00 certificate at the
sante establishment. Other prizes will be up for grabs -as well.
The show will be open between 3:30 and 8:00 p.tn. Saturday
June 23 at North Street United Church Hall.
The St. Mary's Separate School Track and Field Meet was
held last Friday. One of the organizers of the meet L. Lane Is

Council studying Town Square closur
Mayor Harry Worsell is back
at council after a vacation in
California while Councillor
Elsa Hgydon left last Wed-
nesday with her husband for a
holiday in Europe. Also absent
at last week's council meeting
was Councillor Eileen Palmer
who was out of town for the
day.
During the regular
correspondence, a letter was
received from the director of
recreation, Mike Dymond.
Council granted permission
to use St. Christopher's Beach
for a summer playground, to in-
clude thil room between the
washro rms for equipment,
storage.
Approval was also given to
use the now unused meeting
room above the promotion of-
fice, for additional office space
for the summer months.
However, council was reluc-
tant to give approval to the
third request from Dymond.
The Recreation director
asked to use the grassed area of
the Square for. Summer Fest
'73, particularly the east area
between North Street and
Kingston Streets. He further
asked on behalf 4bf the commit-
tee that the roadway in that
area be closed to traffic during
the three days of activities -
The Goderich Legion Tykes
picked up another victory last
weekend, defeating Port Elgin
24-2 in Goderich last Saturday
June 9. I.n three games this
year- the tykes, have won two
and tied one.
The Goderich team con-
tinued their hitting power
lashing out twenty hits in
Saturday's game. Steve Gallow
and Dan " Maillet each had
,three hits for Goderich. Gallow
had two singles and a triple' in
four at bats. He also walked
one and scored four runs. All
three of Maillet's hits were
doubles.
Jim Costello, Will Denomme,
Mike Hodge, Ted Doherty
Larry Madge and. Rob
MacDonald each had two' hits.
Dave Gallow and Mark Rowe
had the other Goderich hits.
Goderich rapped out thirteen
singles, five doubles, one triple
and one homer.
Ted Doherty had the only
homerun in the game a bases -
loaded shot in a six run first in-
ning for Goderich.
Mike Landry had two of Port
Elgin's five hits, both' doubles.
Dan MacDonald, Mike Regan
and Larry McNabb had the
Other Port Elgin hits.
Mike Hodge and Del Mit-
chelmore held Port Elgin to
five hits in the game, and
struckout eight and walked
three.
Goderich opened the scoring
in the bottom of the first with
six runs. Port Elgin scored one
in the top of the second but
Goderich came back with ten in
the second, one in the third and
seven in the fourth. Port Elgin
scored their final run in the
fifth.
The tykes play twice this

Councillor Frank Walkom
reminded council that local
merchants have objected
strenuously in the past the
street closing, and suggested
that council should "look
carefully" at all aspects before
granting permission.
Deputy -reeve Stan Profit felt
the merchants should co-
operate, but added that if they
have a "valid complaint", it
should be studied carefully.
Councillor Leroy Harrison,
council's 'representative on the
Summer Fest '73 committee,
noted the merchants would be
asked for "a-' donation to the
event in due course.
The matter was referred to
the Parks committee under the -
chairmanship of Councillor
Harrison and to the traffic and
safety committee chaired by
Deputy -reeve Profit.
