Ontario HydrO announced
plans last Thursday for a
massive expansion of its
nuclear power facilities at the
Bruce Nuclear Power Develop-
ment as part of a *$3.8 billion
construction program.
The plan includes the
takeover of Nverhuron Provin-
cial Park to allow for the ex
pansion of the present hydro
facilities. The park will be
replaced by another to be built
10 miles north of the present
one.
Hydro plans to build another
generating station similar to
Bruce O.S. which is presently
under construction. This means*,
four more 800,000 kirowatt
nuclear generating units for -the
Bruce site. The station will be
located on the south limits of
Hydro property The second of

Also to be bunt is another
heavy water plant adjacent and
similar to the one that has just
recently gone into operation. It
will turn out 800 tons of heavy
water a year .
Construction is expected
get underway in 1976 and the
first reactor in the new station
should be 'completed by 1978.
Cost of the new generating
station and heavy water plant
is estimated to be over 1.5

According to the Minister of
Natural Resources, Leo Ber-
nier, park facilities will not suf-
fer by Hydro's taking over of
the park. The 450 acre In-
verhuron site will be replaced
by an 1,800 acre park- at
MacGregor Point. He added
Inverhilron Park was
needed, "to provide Hydro with
the necessary green belt area 'to
surround the enlarged nuclear

new park which is to be
operational by 1975. Until that
time, Inverhuron will operate
as usual, with overnight calll -
ping facilities.
After 1975, overnight cam-
ping will be prohibited Swim-
ming and pi, nicking will be
allowed in the park after hydro
takes it 0\ er.

Mr. Bernier said that

double the size of Kincardine in
the next 10 years.
Councillor Whitey Crawford
of Tiverton' 'thought the an-
nouncement would bring
nothing but growth to the
village. In his opinion, the com-
plex will bring 0 lot more
business to Tiverton than the
park ever did.
According to a hydro
spokesman, the commission
will be discussing details with
municipal authorities and
other interested groups in the
near future.

101, went to County Council on
May :31 and are looking for-
ward to visiting this, Monday,
June 18, to observe hearings at
the Court House. Also, Mrs.
Shaddick's class have made a
donation of $64.25 to the Red
Cross Society. Well done!
Last Tuesday our School par-
ticipated in the field day held
in Clinton. We are very proud
of the commendable showing of
our pupils and their very fine
conduct throughout the day.
We wish to thank Mr.
Harland, Mr. Crawford, Mt
Leggatt_ and Mrs. Dowds for
making the trip to Clinton
possible.
