Things have got off to a fast start in the Goderich Industrial
Softball League with many close and exciting ball games. The
weather is just now starting to cooperate so that should make the
local fah interest even more regular. Sandy's Clippers (rebounding
from a great. spring training) are off to their usual fast start - they
have an average of three hits a game. One ardent supporter
suggested that if Sandy's ever put it tbgether, they would score 75
runs. Kendall Oil is the surprise team thus far as they have not
been beaten in four starts. Time will tell if they can keep getting
the bread and butter hits and the good pitching.... Inthe major
Leagues, the Montreal Expos are solidly secured in second place of
the East Division of the National League with a 25-25 (.500), -
record five games behind the Cubs. The club is playing excellent
baseball while pounding out an average of 10 -plus hits per game.
Now that the bull pen is starting to show 1972 form, they are
DEFINITELY a contender. Just ask anybody in that Eastern
Division The N.H.L. - W.H.A. price war continues for quality
players and I can't help ,but' regret the inflated figures some of
these players are getting. Just think how much more watered
down the hockey will be again this winter. Several teams are still
searching for a coach, the Leafs being one of them and none are
signed as of press time. The Howe boys should certainly stir things
up in Houston, however it will be an expensive investment if tieir
act' turns out to be a flop.. Should be interesting ... See you next
week.
