Poor weather crimps
farmers' seed plans
For the se"cund year in a row,
cool wet conditions have
stalled the planting of corn and
beans in Huron County and
slowed the growth of spring
grain and fall wheat.
"These are worse corn plan-
ting conditions than last year,"
Mike Miller, Associate
Agricultural Representative for
Huron County said 'Tuesday.
Mr. Miller said that between
10 and '4(1 percent of this vear's
corn crop still needed to be
planted and the optimum date,
somewhere between May 15
and May 24, had already
passed.
Field corn planted during the
first 10 days of June may not
mature sufficiently before fall
frosts come, but late seeded
silage corn wouldn't he
bothered as much.
Nearly six inches of rain has
been dumped on the area since
the=$irst of- May and cordhined
with the'tool temperatures and
cloudy skies, drying conditions
have been poi r`"for all but a few
days.
"Some of the corn put in

Legion Tykes tie
Kincardine in town
The Goderich Legion Tykes
came up with five runs in the
bottom of the seventh inning to
tie Kincardine 13-13 last Satur-
day, June 2 in Goderich. The
tie left Goderich with a one
win, one tie record to date.
It was a comback effort for
Goderich as they trailed 2-1 af-
ter one inning 4-1 after two and
4-3 after three innings.
A leadoff homer by Larry
Andrew in the top of the fourth" -
gave Kincardine a 5-3 lead.
Kincardine added another four
in the fifth, building up a 9-4
lead and scored three in the
sixth and one. in the seventh.
Goderich got rolling in the
final two innings with four in
the sixth and five in the
seventh. Pinchhitter Dave
Gallow started things off in the
bottom of the seventh with a
walk and moved to second on
Dave Moore's walk.
Larry Madge singled home
Gallow and moved Moore to
third. Madge stole second and
both Madge and Moore scored
on Rob McDonald's single.
McDonald score on Steve
Gallow's single. Gallow tied
the game scoring on Dan
Maillet's groundout to first.
Carl Weise lead the Kincar-
dine offensive with three
singles in four at bats plus one
walk. Jim Catto, Larry
McLaren and Larry Andrew
each had two hits for Kincar-
dine.
Stey,e Gallow continued his
hitting spree for Goderich with
-five hits.- n the-twe garner—so-
far this year, Steve has four
singles, one double and two
triples in seven at bats. He has
walked three times and scored
seven runs.
Rob McDonald has also..bee#t,
connecting this year with silk
hits in nine at bats. In Satur=
day's game he had two singles
and a homerun in five at bats.
Mike Hodges had two hits on
Saturday. Dan Maillet, Mark
Rowe, Del Mitchelmore, Dave
Moore anf Larry Madge had
the other Goderich hits.
Goderich outhit Kincardine
13-9 but Kincardine's hits
came with men on base.
Jim Costello and Del Mit-
chelmore combined for a nine
.hitter against Kincardine,
They struck out eight and -
walked seven.
