plaque, but the inner satisfac-
tion of knowing that one, has
participated to the best of their
ability."
"The assembly also
recognizes the work of the'staff
in these activities. The staff do
participate because they know
the value of the extra-cirricular
program." he stated.
One of the most coveted
trophies awarded in the assern-
hly is the Arthur Peaches
Memorial Award which goes io

class who has combined a high
academic abiLity with
honorable athletic ability in at
least four years in high school-.
This year the trophy was won
by pretty Wendy Ryan 18 year
old daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Stan Ryan of 7 Blake Street
Wendy attended Victoria
Public School and the d Vic-
tor Lauriston Public/ Sc 001.
When asked if she ;accom-
plished everything in school for
which she aimed, she replied,
"I achieved everything that I
wanted to, good marks and
athletic success and I though it
would be nice to get one big
award. But when I got three, it
was_ really too much."
Wendy plans to attend the
University of Waterloo to study
chemical engineering. She
stated that for the most part,
she is really looking forward to
next year but sometimes she
feels quite nervous about the
change.
The other major trophy is the
G.D.C.I: Leadership Trophy
which was awarded this year to
eighteen year-old Con Melady
son of Dr. T.R.. Melady of 362
Huron Road.

Con received the trophy for
his leadership ability, strength
of character and scholarship.
According to the committee of
staff members who chose him
as the recipient, Con had a
favourable influence on the
well being of the school and the
student body.
In making the choice, the
committee had to take Con's
whole school career into con-
sideration. Specific reference
was given to the years spent in.
the final three grades. Athletic
prowess received no con-
sideration at all.

Con, a graduate of St. Mary's
Separate School, has been ac-
cepted at both the University of
Waterloo and the University of
Western Ontario, but he said
he would ,,rather attend the -
University of Guelph and get
his Batchelor of Science Degree
in Chemistry.
His reaction to winning this
award? "It was a nice way to
end the year."
