The G.D.C.I. senior Vikings
suc-ter tears added two more
victories to their Huron -Perth
league record last week.
On Wednesday, playing at
home they defeated Mitchell 1-
0 and on Friday in Wingham
they hung a 5-0 shutout on the
radio town boys.
In the Mitchell game there
was no scoring in the first half,
although the G.D.C.I. team had
an. edge in play and several
good opportunities. •
The Viking forwards were
called several times on uffsides
attributable to
overanxiousness.
The Vikings effort finally
paid off -in a goal at the thir- -
teen minute mark of the second
half' when Brian MacKenzie
scored following a fine -team -
passing _attack.
A strong defensive effort by
the Vikings kept Mitchell from
scoring in the time remaining.
Playing in Wingham the
Vikings kept the pressure on
the home team from the begin-
ning of the game. The first
Viking goal did not come until
thee, twWnty five minute mark
when -ft" cross pass from "Joe -
Joe' Watt set up Brian
MacKenzie who scored.
Larry Donnelly nude it 2-l)
two minutes latera on a similar
play.
"Twelve unutes into the
second half Dave Mclvor
scored on a pass from Donnelly.
Donnelly added his second
goal of the game four minutes
later on a cross pass from Watt.
Donnelly made it three goals by
scoring again on a similar pass -
out from Watt, making the
final score 5-0.
Wingham managed only four
shots on, the G.b.C.I. goal
during the' game.
The ord is now
four winVikingss, one lossrecand one tie,
with two games remaining in
the schedule. Coach Pa•
ul
hlowe's squad played here
Tuesday against Exeter and
play their final game today
(Thursday) at Stratford Cen-
tral.
The junior Vikings continued
`their tying ways by playing to a
pair of 1-1 draws against Mit-
chell and Wingham. ,Their
record -to date _is one win and
five ties in six starts. Thus they
find themselves in the unusual
position of being able to finish
the season undefeated but not
be in contention for the league
championship.
Mitchell scored in the first
half here Wednesday forcing
the G.D.C.I. team to challenge
there offensively in the second
half. The Vikings did control
most of the. play in the second
half despite playing one man
short, with Grant Shelton being
ejected for rough play in the
early minutes of the final half.
It was in the last minute of
play when lain Lambert scored
on a cross. pass from Kevin
Mertam to pull out the tie for
the Vikings.
In
controlled,gpl y inhethe Vikings
going, scoring the first goal
when Kevin Meriam rapped in
le loose hall in front of the
Ingham goal.
The Wingham goal came on
their only good shot on goal, a
penalty shot in the second half.
Coach' Phil Bugler expressed
disappointment and felt the'
Vrktngs should have won both
of these games.
"1'nfortunately in both cases,
the outcome of the match was
in the hands of the official and
not the players," said Bugler.
'l'he G.D.C.I. junior coach
has made no secret of his
dissatisfaction with the of-
ficiating in the league this
season.
