The entire student body _ attends this assembly which honors those students who have participated in extra- curricular activities, at G.D.C.I. in the previous months. The students receiving awards certainly work hard for them and deserve to be congratulated, as do their staff advisors. Yes, the "Greaseball Boogie Rand" was in Goderich!! They were certainly the 'cats meow!' as they entertained G.D.C.I. students at the last dance of the year. • To be admitted to the Lance you had to be a greaser... that is you had to slick back your locks with, grease (real grease!); put on the spotless white socks; dig out your 'pickle stabbers' and straight-leg jeans; and .roll up the arms of your shirt, and your pant legs! Charming! Many of the girls were ador- ned with pony tails and hobby sox! They danced to 'oldies, but goodies' such as "Rock Around the Clock!" and more than a few people were doing a true Chubby Checkers twist! Randy Keller and his social committee of Ann McEwan, Barb Blake, Steve Remington and Gabe Kaprzak have done well. this year to organizing the social events at G.D.C.I. and Randy*ends his term in office as Social Convener looking back -on Many successes. Janet Bradley VON service here is gaining popularity Although Mrs. Janet Bradley_. has been employed with Vic- .torian Order of Nurses since last September, she feels the service in this part of Huron County i5 just becoming recognized as vital and helpful. It was due to the introduc- . tion of the Horne Care Program in Huron that the VON carne to Huron in 1971. The service here is a branch of the Strat- ford VON which commenced at the turn of the century - 1908. • Mrs. Bradley is one of three part-time VON staffers in Huron who works with one full time VON stationed at Clinton. The other nurses are in Wingham and Seaforth districts. Mrs. Bradley's area runs from Goderich to Amberley north. She puts in an average of four to six' hours each day as well as every- other weekend. The services of the VON must be arranged through the family doctor or through the Home Care Program. Of course, information about the programs undertaken by the VON is available from the VON answering service in Clin- ton, 482-3447. Fees for the VON are ad- justable according to the patient's ability to pay and no one is refused service for finan- cial reasons. Mrs. Bradley reports that her work entails many aspects of nursing although the greatest need is for assistance to diabetics, either new or others in some way handicapped as far as administet°ing insulin is OPP urge caution for summertime During a fairly active week the Goderich , Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police patrolled 6,346 miles of high- ways and other roads during 824 duty hours. Moulton points out, "and we are again into that period of time when a lot of accidents take place." "Remember that you not only have to drive your own car, but you must be alert and aware of what other people are doing I think a good indication of how careful you, have to be is the fact th'kt the Goderich O.P.P. have made 209 liquor seizures since January 1 of 1973 and 74 people have been given breathalyzer tests at this detachment," he said. gra { •ftttt+a • 444044 444444 `114 $:Gest#► 4 `4$$t+i FOR A GOOD JOB AT A REASONABLE PRICE PHONE RAY LAMBERS482S33, For Professional Aerial Weed Control cam SPRAYCO concerned; changing dressings for patients at home following surgery, etc; and bathing elderly folks who are unable to care for themselves in this way. Miss Margaret Wood, nurse in charge of the VON Perth - Huron branch says, "The Perth -Huron branch of the VON is deeply involved in the well-being of those who live in the communities -we serve." "Home nursing care," says Miss Wood, "the developing use of "nurse practitioners" as a new kind of right hand for the medical profession, the special care needed by senior citizens - all are part of ac- celerating changes in the health care field.'' "The kinds of service available from the VON are not always generally known by those who need them," said Miss Wood. "We do not ask for publicity for the VON as such, but for the services which the. Order has been able to provide to many people who need them." THE MOST EXPERIENCED PEOPLE IN THIS FIELD BON 4e Duni May. me Dunlop was h me Tow iVedne' with a the able nt, b1rs: E resident.
