oil further noted in
"in the last two
years the activities have
spiraled and many more people
have become involved." He
said he had -been involved as a
Recreation Board member, an
Art Club exhibitor and as an
organizer for the flower festival
sponsored by the Garden Club.
Mr. Carroll said --that- .one
result of the increased -interest
would be the need "for more
coordination of the overall
program of events."
Recreation Board agreed
with Mr. Carroll's observations
and authorized Recreation
Director Mike Dymond to
organize a meeting of all those
interested in an attempt to
carry on the activity.
The Recreation Board at
that time recommended
representation at that first
meeting from the Recreation
Board, Public Works Commit-
tee, Kinsmen' Club,
Businessmen's , Association,
Tourist Committee, Garden
Club and Art Club:
When the meeting was held
May 8 Mike Dymond represen-
ted the Recreation Board, Max
Cutt was on hand for the
Tourist Committee, George
Hiles from the Kinsmen, and
Wendy Hornig from the Garden
Club. Ernie Niblock and Paul
Carroll attended as interested
citizens.
Since that time the
Businessmen's Association and
the Save the Jail Society have
contacted Mike Dymond ex-
pressing interest in sending a
representative as well.
Mr. Dymond explained after-
wards that any other group
who would like to take part in.,,
the activities would be most
welcome to send representation
to the Steering Committee to
look after their interests.
Those attending that first
meeting agreed there should be
a summer fest activity of some
sort of which it was hoped an
Art Exhibition, the Kinsmen.
Carnival, Street Sales, *a Beer
Garden, Street Dance and
Sailing Races might be part.
No final name has been
chosen as yet but ,'Summer -
Fest" was suggested and it and
other suggestions will be
discussed at later meetings.
The main aim of the steering
committee will be to get as
many people and groups within
the community involved as
possible. Mr. Dymond did note
in a Signal -Stam interview
however that unless more
response was forthcoming in
the next week the whole event
"might not come off at all."
Letters have gone out to.bet-
ween 12 an`d 15 groups in the -
community asking them to par-
ticipate or at least support the
venture.
Anyone interested in con-
tributing in some way to the
Summer -Fest or taking part is
asked to contact the Recreation
Directors office at 524-8373.
