Well the Montreal Canadians (as expected) won the Stanley
Cup last week. Chicago fought valiantly but just didn't have the
depth of the Hobs. Montreal will strengthen their reserves this,
week in the Junior draft, they have seven of the top twenty-two
Juniors In the country The Marilee won the Memorial Cup
defeating Quebec by a score of 5-2. (If only they were still the
Leafs farm club eht...in a recent hockey match between the
Goderich Detachment of the O.P.P. and the Sebringvilie detach-
ment, the Goderich side was victorious with Bruce "Silver
Skates" Wheeler leading the way with four goals Local soft-
ball teams can be seen getting Into shape on the loch
diamonds. The season opens on the 21st of this month with the
Defending champion DRMCO team playing the Carlow - Tire
Squad. Other_ .teams entered this year are Sandy's Clippers,
Fisher Building, Sifto Salt, Brindley's, and Gord's Sports from
last year with Kendall 011, a new entry also taking part The
Montreal Expos have been doing well of late. They seem to have
avoided that May swoon that drops them to the cellar -every
year and at press time are tied wi(h rhe defending division
champs, the Pirates for third place with s 13-15 record. This
year, they have been getting many more runs than in the past
but the usually tight defence and solid pitching staff have been
a little ihconsistent. In the American League, the Tigers are
staying near first yet playing less than .500 baseball Had to
chuckle when I heard the -report that Clarence Campbell didn't
want any cameras In the dressing room of the victorious
Stanley cup team because of the display of alcoholism and
rowdyism which Is such a problem In Canada today. Yet !think 1
saw Mr. Campbell sipping a nice cold Genesee in Chicago
stadium at the last game?? See you next week, I hope to
have an in;depth look at the Goderich Industrial Softball
League
