Four hospitals in Huron
County will be among in-
stitutions which will be presen-
ted with finished pieces of art
depicting various scenes of
local interest. Hospitals in
Goderich, Clinton, Seaforth
and Exeter are designated to
definitely receive paintings and"
prints. One or two nursing
home*; = may get some of the
work also. The project run by
Jitn Marlatt and Ernie Niblock
began in .January.
The artists 'Marlatt and
Niblock will decide how the 200
prints and 30 original oil pain-
,'tings will be divided up. With
one month to go in,the project,
there are three other people
working on the production.
They are; Jerry Huckins who
does ,Host of the carpentry
work, printing and framing;
Claudia Elliott a third year art
student at the University of
Guelph and Shelly Linner a
third ,,year honours math
student at the University of
-Waterloo; Claudia is doing
some painting while Shelly is
handling the bookkeeping.
Both girls are from Goderich.
Some of the paintings had
been placed on exhibit in'
March both at G D.C.I. and the
studio There are currently
paintings on display in the
I.A.C. building on the Square
and in the Trans Canada
Loans Office on West Street.
It was originally intended
that the paintings would be
delivered to the hospitals
framed but due to the amount
of the grant being dropped by
$2,ttO1) mangy"- of ttteiti' f Sa h'is
to he delivered unframed..
Lim Mairlatt feels that they
have really ,just begun to fill
the needs of the County of
-Huron to have their hospitals
decorated with paintings and
prints of local scenery which
are destined to become local
history. According to Marlatt
"a future program perhaps run
by a service club could expand
and possibly decorate other
public buildings such as
libraries and municipal of-
fices."
