Mrs. Wallace advised ,council that in future deliberations over the fate of the jail, the role to be played e.by the Huron Branch of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario might be considered. The Property Committee of Huron County . Council met with representatives of Goderich Town Council last Friday. Negotiations are still continuing between the . two bodies concerning the jail. However, it is unlikely any firm decisions will be reached in time for the jail to be opened to the public this summer. He also advised action "if at ,all possible': Councillor suggested that Dave Gower action be deferred until the 1973 budget is finalized. Reeve Deb Shewfelt suggested that Councillor Walkom not destroy the heads of any lights being replaced by the Town. He said small municipalities like Port Albert might be able to use• them. • "Wes • destroy nothin g., tlkon: * * * said Council has tabled the report of the Goderich Recreation and Community Centre' Board minutes and will deal with the matter at tonight's committee meeting. Among other minor concerns, council disapproved of the fact that recreation staff had been hired for the summer and their names had been published in The Goderich Signal -Star before council sanction had been ,given. The report, also conrained a schedule of fees to be paid to summer staff numbering 43 and colncil expressed some in- terest, in this. The report • noted that the Goderich Rotary Club was prepared to install a water heater in the swimming pool at .Judith Gooderham Park at en approximate cost of $3,100. Operating cost would be ap- proximately $600 per annum and would' be paid by the Recreation Board and council's permission to undertake this expenditure was sought. It is 'understood t Lions. Club would provide lighting at the pool as well as wind -breaks. Mrs. Stanley Mcllwain from Goderich Township Institute, Mrs. Roy Daer from Auburn Institute, Mrs. W.E. Radford from Clinton Institute, Mrs. Alice Buchanan from Lon- deshoro I0stitute, Mrs. Clifford "Crozier from Goderich In- stitute, and Mrs. Gordon J. Kaitting from Tiger Dunlop Women's Institute, Colborne Township. Mrs. Worthy Fowler and daughter Elaine entertained at their home last Thursday evening for a Miscellaneous Bridal Shower for the former's neice Miss Evelyn Haggitt. The first" part of the evening wit's spent in Contests and then- the Bride of the Month was seated in a decorated chair while her sister Carolyn and Elaine Fowler presented her, with the gifts. Mrs. Oliver Anderson of Auburn and Mrs. Donald Fowler of Toronto assisted with the lunch. The Bride-to-be, who will be married in „Brussels, thanked her Hostess and the many friends for the lovely shower and the beautiful gifts. Combined with the heater, it is believed the swimming hours could be extended into evenings and . greater use made of the pool during the summer mon- ths. Reeve Deb Shewfelt' ex- presed disappointment at this prospect. He said he felt it was time Goderich "took a stab at a . closed -in pooV 'which could be used all year round. Shewfelt said that grants are available which would pay 100 percent of the labor for such a project. He added that Goderich has poured ,money into Judith Gooderham Park "for a very short operation" and he noted the pool had to be dug up once again this spring for repairs. "Is this pouring good money after bad?" asked Shewfelt`. Mavor Harry Worsell claimed that recent summers have been cold and it is believed the heater would provide an immediate solution to the problem as well'' as a much -needed -extension of the swimming season, especially where swimming lessons are concerned. * * * Council has agreed to forego (continued' on page 9) Festival '73 COMING SOON I 13am plumbing a heating R.R. 5, GODERICH, ONT.
