SOCIAL EVENTS
Several from this area atten-
ded the Goderich District
Collegiate Institute on either
Thursday, Friday or Saturday
evening to see the Goderich Lit-
tle Theatre production. "Spring
Tonic", directed by Marjorie
Dunlop; accompanist Paul
Baker. Congratulations to
Marianne and Lisa Frayne,
daughters of Mr. and Mrs.
Eugene Frayne who took part
in this musical.
The May Dance held at the
Auburn Hall, sponsored by the
St. Augustine Youth Club -and
the Knights of Columbus dance
at the Royal Canadian Legion'
Goderich, were enjoyed by
many from this area.
Mr.• and Mrs. Len Woodley
and son Paul of Mallon spent
this weekend at the home of
her mother, Mrs. Clifton
Austin. On Sunday afternoon,
they enjoyed a visit from Mr.
and Mrs. Ted Baechler of
Goderich
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Heffer-
nan and family of Newmarket
spent the weekend at the home
of his parents, Mr. -and Mrs.
Ormand Heffernan.

It's good to know that Mrs.
Frank MacLennan and Mrs.
Jim Bradley are both able to
return home from hospital in
London,- where both had un-
dergone surgery.
The barn fire at John and
Lambert Vanderveens, gave
everyone a real scare, and the
community were all on hand to
help save what they could,- this
was closely followed by another
call to the Lucknow Volunteer
Firemen to the farm of Donald
Hamilton where a fire had star-
ted in the gangway near the
barn. This fire was under, con-
trol by the time the firemen'
arrived.
Neighbours and friends
gathered on Friday evening at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. John
A. MacDonald to bid farewell
to Andrew Barkwell, a long
time resident of the Lochalsh
area. Andrew now makes his
home with his sister Edna. On'
behalf of the neighbours An-
drew was presented with a
watch by Ewan MacLean and
Don Simpson. A social time
was enjoyed and a cup of tea
served.

Saturday was Girl Guide and Brownie Cookie Day, the an-
nual fund raising event which produces the necessary fun-

PUBLIC
SPEAKING CONTEST
This week everyone in the
school will either give a speech,
recite a poem, give a reading or
introduction. Parents are in-
vited to come each afternoon
from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. to
hear the children. On Monday°,
Kindergarten to Grade 4 will
be heard. On Tuesday; the
Grade 4 speeches and Grades 5
and 6 will be heard. On Wed-
nesday Grades 7 a.nd 8 will
take part. First prize' is $5.00;
second prize $3.00; third ,prize
$2.00. Everyone who par-
ticipates receives a. silver
dollar. On Thursday evening
May 10th at 8:15 p.m. in the
school gym, all first place' win-
ners will say their speech,
reading or recite a poem. This
contest was made available
through money left for this pur-
pose by;. Jatnervey.
This week a draw was made
for the she.Lves which the Grade
5 and Grade 6 boys made. Jef-
frey Austin, son of Mr. and.
Mrs. Eldon Austin was the
lucky winner.
A- very successful bake sale
was held on Saturday evening
and on Sunday #horning
following Masses. The profit
will go to help towards the
school excursion to Maple
Ridge, British Columbia.
Thanks to ,all those who
donated baking, etc.
The film deals with both the
medical and emotional aspects
of sexuality, with special em-
phasis on communication. It
was made during a two-hour
presentation at the Ontario
Science Center as part of a
Symposium on Adolescent
Sexuality.
Using the medium of role
play, the film features A.B.
Chernick; M.D.,' F R.C.S., 1C)
and his wife B. Chernick, M.D.,
Ph. D.,• of London, Ontario.
They explore the subjects of
sexuality and communication
-as they relate to both the doe -
tor / patient relationship and
the husband/wife relationship.
The film stimulates
discussion and is ideally Suited
for use by those involved in
family life, counselling and
,.iucation._
Co -Pilot_ have already
received a lot of calls concer-
ning this seminar as many
people have shown a great deal
of interest lin the subject.

than qualified to lead the
discussion following the,film
and we urge all 'those whare
interested to please show up
early in order to make sure to
acquire a seat, " project• direc-
tor Maurice Blanchard said.
