aspects of your application be
resolved as soon as possible so
that the general plan necessary
for a public hearing can be
prepared and the hearing
scheduled at an early date. You
will be responsible for the
preparation of the plan but we
will arrange the public
hearing."

Bob Lortie, Saltford, left his Koffee Kart long enough
Tuesday to land a whopper of a trout - 31 Inches long and
weighing 11 1/2 lbs. The big Rainbow was landed near the
railway trestle over the Maitland and was hauled in on the
end of an 11 Ib. test line. Bob's father, Rene Lortie was in
the area to visit and took pleasure In assisting with a net
to bring the delectable dinner to tow. Bob says he's been'
fishing all his fife but this was the first 'trout of this size
he's caught.... and the biggest fishing thrill of bis career.

Recreation with tomorrow in mil
Can the Sky Harbour Airport
be effectively used in the future
as a recreation site? These and
other such questions were
raised and discussed at a
totally informal meeting of the
Recreation Committee held at
the Bedford Hotel Tuesday,
April 17.
Chairman Pete McCauley
stated that the purpose of the
meeting _was merely to "air"
committee member feelings
abt►ut what they would like to
see happen in the future of
recreation in Goderich.
Former,Chairman Paul
Carroll opned the meeting by
stating that "crow is the time
fo.r,, recreational planning
because things here in Goderich
are moving and they're going to
keep ,moving.".
According to Mr. Carroll, "a
lot cif people do n'ot"fully realize
exactly what recreation is. To
thele it is going to an organized
activity for a certain number of
hours and that's it. Recreation
is everything we do in our spare
time."
Carroll expressed his feelings
that the existing , facilities
should be used to more advan-
tage. He was aiming directly at
the schools in his comment
stating that "schools exist and
cost the taxpayers a lot of
money yet they sit vacant a
good part of the time."
It was generally thought by
all the members that the public
should have total access to the
schools and that it could only
be accomplished with the co-
operation and co-ordination
between the Municipality and
the Board of Education.
Goderich Recreation Director
Mike Dymond is now working
closely with G.D.C.I. principal
John Stringer. Both men have
discussed the future possibility
of constructing an indoor swim-
ming pool at the high school. It
is thought that this could be
done with the shared co-
operation between the Board of

Education and the
Municipality. Port Elgin has
apparently had good success
with a similar project of this
nature, however the service
cluhs of that Town of Maples
also chipped in about $60,000.
During the evening it was
mentioned that in the future
serious consideration should be
given •to moving the racetrack
out to the town limits possibly
Sky Harbour Airport. Many
members of the committee
would like to see this happen
and the present site subdivided
or used as parkland.
Members of the Recreation
Committee were unanimous in
their belief that there should be
a merger sometime between the
Town Parks Department and
the Recreation Department. It
is thought that if they were
unified, they could work .more
.closely together in planning the
use of the parks as recreation
sites.
Although these suggestions
brought out by various mem-
bers of the Recreation Commit-
tee are not destined to happen
in the immediate future, they
