Plans for the 73rd District annual to be held in Dungan- non on May 30 were completed. Conveners of standing com- mittees and members of the executive are meeting May 2 at Mrs. H. Alton's to plan 1973-74 programs. The meeting was in the charge of Resolutions and Public Relations. The motto "Carrying a 'chip on your shoulder is a mighty heavy load" was taken by Mrs. W.A. Stewart, resolutions convener. She said that people who shut themselves off from con- tact with others more often have a chip on their shoulder. Some of the reasons are over sensitivity, aggressiveness, in- security, crippled emotions. These problems are not often found in W.I. members, she ad- ded. Falls are the leading cuase of accidental death at home. 'l'hev can happen on ladders, stairs or any elevated surface, but they can be just as dangerous at floor level. Provide adequate lighting in your home, especially on- star, ' 4 Keep floors and stairs clear and in good repair. Skid -proof your scatter ruga — and never use them at the' head of the stair*. * Use a step ladder or step - stool for reaching high places. ,Never use madeshifts suchas boxes, tables or chairs. * Take your time — walk, don't run and use the handrail when going up or down stairs. ARE BRIGHTER AND SHARPER In the group study based on community concerns and needs, a panel of four led the discussion: Mrs. Wm. Stewart, resolutions and the changes they have brought about; Mrs. Cliff Purdon, safety in the home and the dangers of self treatment; Mrs.' G. E)-rington the importance of being aware of new signs and symbols, on medicines, home products and highways; and Mrs,. Jack Clement, metrication, now and in the future. Mrs. Clarence McClenaghan summed up their comments. Resolutions have brought about many benefits and will continue to do so as long as they find support among those who are concerned with the betterment of mankind. Around the home a good motto is 'Do it yourself, not to yourself". Be alert to the meaning of signs and symbols, they are rapidly replacing the printed sings. Change with the times—metrication 4s coming to stay. Mrs. Al -ton thanked the hostess and all who took part in the ,meeting. ...„The draw for the W.I. quilt was made by Mrs. Ross Spry of Niagara Falls, New York, and the winner 'was Ken McNee, Dungannon.
