Construction Features; The
elevation of the septic tank
outlet must be at least 4 inches
higher than the elevation of
tile at the header or
distribution box.
For domestic disposal
systems, the use of either a
solid header or distribution box
with solid header may be ap-
proved by the health agency.
A „,distribution box must be
used where a dosing device is
required. In case, a liquid level
check of the box will be conduc-
LI by the inspector at the time
of the system check.
Tying in of ends of tile runs
is optional for a trickle system.
A dosing device (siphone or
pump) may be required by the
health agency. --
Lines of tile in a disposal
field without a dosing device
should not exceed 75 feet, and
with a dosing device should not
exceed 100 feet.
Disposal field and absorption
trench details shall conform to
specifications as illustrated.
To determine the size of ef-
fluent disposal fields, soils soils
are classified as good, marginal
and unacceptable. Good soils
will have a percolation rate of
30.rninutes or better. Marginal,
soils will have a percolation
rate of 30 to 60 minutes. Unac-
ceptable soils will have a per-
colation rate that is greater
than 60 minutes. Unacceptable
soils will require an alternate

removed.
If grading or filling is
required, it muit be completed
prior to installing a disposal
system and fill - must be
stabilized.Excavations 5 feet or more in
depth may be required to deter-
mine the elevation of the
ground water table and the
presence of impervious
material.
Soil tests may be required
when the permeability of the
soil is doubtful.

method of sewage disposal.
On properties jeaving poor
soil, rock, or a high ground
water table, the Huron County
Health Unit mayrequire a
separate reserve area that can
be used to double the siie of the
required tile bed (effluent
disposal system) in case the
initial installation fails in any
way. The reserve area must be
equal in size to the required tile
bed and suitable in all respects
for the construction of a secon-
dary tile bed in accordance
with, standards contained in
this pamphlet.
Minimum lot sizes: No
municipal water or sanitary
sewer systems - 15,000 sq. ft.
Municipal water system but no
sanitary sewer system - 7,500
sq.
In areas where the soil is
poor or where rock or the
ground water table is less than
5 feet from ground surface, the
permitted density of sewage
disposal systems will be
-limited. This is essential to
prevent the creation of
unhealthy conditions and
possible pollution of the en-
vironment..
Excessive water consumption
will overload your septic tank
system and cause serious
problems and inconvenience to
you.
Roof, foundation and surface
water should not drain onto the
disposal bed area, nor into the
septic tank.
Keep water use to a
minimum and water faucets, in
good repair to prevent leakage.
A tank should be pumped out
every two or three years to
avoid the tile field being

clogged by solids.
The means anf place of
disposal of the contents must
be approved.
Starters or additives are not
necessary for septic tanks.
Normal household use of
disinfectants and similar
chemicals will not interfere
with the operation of a septic
tank system. T.
Waste from all plumbing fix-
tures should discharge into the
septic tank. Grease traps are
not necessary.don domestic in-
stallations.
Careful consideration ehoul0
be given to the selection an
location of‘ trees and (shrubs, to
prevent root damage to the tile
field.
