Audrey Royal introduced the
guest speaker Dr. Parmar, head
of the child and adolescent
branch of the Goderich
Psychiatric Hospital who is a
native of India. In an informal
and humorous manner he
discussed, many aspects of In-
dian life.
In a question and answer
period he revealed that his
early life was spent ill Burma
and educated in an American
Methodist College in the Pun-
jab area where he received- his,
M.B, In many ways Canada is
like India where there is a vast
difference between the North
and the South and the rich and
poor.
The northern provinces are
wheat producers and therefore
more prosperous while the
southern people would not eat
any wheat products even if
there were a rice famine.
Unlike Canada though in In-
dia the women are the rulers of
the household. In another way
India is more democratic than
Canada since assuming in-
dependence from Great Britain
in that Communists may be
elected to Parliament.
India is following Western,
trends in the . breakdown 'of
family life, and the increasing
use of drugs. He also noted that
drugs were used originally by
the Hinders as a religious ex-
yerience and the same effect is
achieved by some evangelistic
sees to achieve conversion
without the use of drugs.
Glenda Salter thanked Dr.
and Mrs. Parmar for, corning
and presented them with a gift.
The Meeting closed with an
Easter hymn and lunch
prepared by Winnie Walters
and Donna Crawford.
