The situation is not expected
to improve in 1974 and farmers
are advised to review pur-
chasing practices to ensure
availability and favorable
prices. The third quarter 1972
fertilizer price index for On-
tario was 95.1 (1961 equals
100).
The prospects for favorable
fertilizer prices during the
spring 1974 planting season do
not look good; because of high
demand, limited production
capacity, and increasing labor
and transportation costs.

A varied program this summer
Huron Country Playhouse,
located on a farm just east of
Grand Bend, will open its
second season July 11 in vastly
improved facilities thanks to a
Local Initiatives Program grant
of $27,300 given the theatrical
group in January. The
Playhouse itself put up an ad-
ditional $2,700 to make an
even $30,000..
The L.I.P. grant provides for
the employment- of between 10
and 12 carpenters, plumbers,
electricians and laborers over
five and, one half months to
begin the work of converting a
barn into a unique theatre.
Last year -the theatre troupe
staged their production - in a cir-
cus tent adjoining the barn and
such will again be the case for
the 1973 season but with some
changes.
'First of all the tent will be
much larger than the 1972 ver-
sion and the stage and lighting
set ups have been vastly im-
proved acc6rding ,to playhouse
spakesmanc-,Bob Pearson.
The tent will adjoin the barn
where workmen are now busy
remodeling and building into
the structure many- extras,
which will provide better
facilities for both the actors
and theatre crews as well as
the theatre patrons.
Initially the work crews were
involved in structural work,
replacing rotted beams with
material salvaged from a
second barn the troupe pur-
chased and tore down. Walls
deemed to be poor condition
are being replaced, siding and
roofs are being repaired and
new flooring installed in the
loft.
With these steps complete a
lobby, restrooms, dressing
rooms, bar, art exhibit area,
workshops and rehearsal
facilities will be built into the
existing barn.
Irl,,,addition to the barn the
theatre troupe also owns a for-
mer drive.: shed and. a farrn
house on their property and
money from the L.I.P. grant is
going into rebuilding and refur-
nishing these structures as well.
The drive shed has become
office facilities for directing the
company's activities downstairs
and the Upstairs has been
rebuilt as dormatory facilities
for the cast and crew.
The house will also have its
upstairs converted to dor-
mitories while the lower por-
tion will •be turned into a large
kitchen and dining room to
serve the theatre crews.
Huron. Country Playhouse
will run a ,secofld..eight week
season during 1973 with one
play being presented each week.

The production schedule calls
for the staging of Bus Stop, Un-
der the Yum Yum Tree, The
Show Off, Fantastics, The
Reluctant Debutant and Pink
String and Sealing Wax. In ad-
dition two Canadian plays will
be presented, Like Father Like
Son and Hand that Cradles the
Rock.
Playhouse officials say they
were very happy with the
response during their first
season of operation and are
looking forward to a better year
during 1973.
