My tyjoctor has assured me that physically it doesn't change anything except the ability to impregnate. The horror stories about the side ef- fects of a vasectomy have been pretty much discredited. But what about . personality changes? It's been a year since my husband had the operation and. he is a different person. He never wants to stay home with me and the children. He has to be out every night. He has con- fessed to one affair but swore it lasted only a few months.._ I learned last week it is still going on. Two of my friends have had the same problem with their husbands. They, too, were devoted family rnen but after the operation they began to run around. Please find out if it is possible that vasectomy can af- fect the mind. If so, is it per- manent? --Mrs. -- Dear Mrs. X.. A vasectomy cannot damage a man's mental machinery but it can (and in your husband's case did) alter his behavioral pattern. You might compare it to the Pill, which has contributed to the increase in venereal disease because it encouraged' promiscuity. 1 am not knocking either the Pill or vasectomy. I believe both have been a boon to mankind. Population control is essential to world survival, and these two techniques have helped a great deal. But no birth control method is 100 per cent safe, totally free of imper- fections and without con- sequences. In your case -'I recommend counseling. Your guy has flipped .his lid and I hope you can help him put it back on. Dear Ann Landers: My sister and I are both married to men of modest circumstances. We have families and expenses. Last year we decided to give our parents a nice party in celebration of their 50th wed- ding anniversary. The list of friends, neighbors WELCOME SERVICE and relatives is a lot longer than we thought it would be. Also, the price of food is a lot higher. We can't afford the kind of party we were planning to give. Would it be proper to ask each couple to send us two dollars? This would solve our problem completely, and at the same time it wouldn't break anyone. Please hurry your an- swer. We're waiting. ---B And C Dear B' and C: It is not proper to charge people to help defray the cost of a party. Serve only, fruit punch and home- made cookies if that is all you can afford, but don't ask for cash donations from guests. Dear Ann: I wrote for advice and your answer was "Forget it." What kind of counseling do you call that? You say you check with authorities all over the place so why didn't you consult someone about my" problem instead of giving me the brush-off? I don't know how you have managed to hang on to your job for so long. You must know somebody igh up in the business. T anks for nothing.-- C.C. 32 persolt first•toolt call TE: Call her et 524-9525 ICE L1D, Dear C.C.: I remember your letter well because your first name (which I won't reveal here) is most unusual. I did check with an authority and his: advice was this: "Her problem is insoluble. She should stop brooding about it and get busy with '8omething else." Remem- ber the philosophy of A.A.: "God, grant me the courage to change that which I CAN change, to accept that which I CANNOT change, and the wisdom to know the dif- ference." Converted to "Lan- ders Language" the message comes out "Forget it." Four girls from the Mary Lynne Telford School of Dan- cing went down to London on Saturday to the competition held there and brought back quite a few medals with them.
